Does anyone know if it is possible to convert an Xbox to run on DC current from a car instead of using an inverter.....

apparently not
i was talking to the guy who repaired mine and he said that he reckons he could do it, but it would be a massive external power supply or something.... blah blah blah.... i wasnt listening... but he did say at the end of the day a $200 pure sine wave would be cheaper easier and more useful..
in short NO

nah I think xBox is built like a PC and needs 12V & 5V rails.
If you know what you're doing could try powering it with one of those PC PSUs
that are designed to run off 12V DC but they don't come cheap, would be
cheaper to just get an inline 240V inverter.
Or hmm... could get a 110V inverter too, xBox is dual voltage isn't it?

It is possible, but if you have to ask the question you are not equiped with the knowledge to attempt it. You'll end up blowing up your xbox :P.

well i have heard of XBox's being powered by a normal PC power supply, and people fit PC's into cars, so i couldn't see why not...
but XBox's and PS2's have been fitted to cars for ages now, so you'd think if it was possible (and affordable) someone would have made a kit or something for it by now.

Well in fact I was only asking in case some one else had done it before and i didn't have to sit down and work it out myself
Im just sick of turning on the xbox and the inverter everytime i turn on the car....

get a "m2-atx" from US ebay for like $100 delivered. This will power your xbox has a voltage regulator shutdown controller so you dont have to turn it on and off. If you are unsure of the electronics get an electrician to do the wiring for you see if you can get one that does auto electrics too so he can run the power cord via firewall etc all in one. You will need to get the specifics of the xbox to him, I assume it has the same power characteristics of a computer with a 12v and 5v rail. The m2-atx is small (about 150mm x 50mm) and can fit into the xbox case.
check out my setup using same psu. (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33784)
