I got a short shift kit installed the other day (thanks to megatron) and I've just started to notice that when I put the car into first gear the actual metal part of the gear lever seems to hit on the plastic surround that it's in. Does it do this for other people too? How did you fix it?
apparently this is normal

I got the one off Megatron, so I'm not sure. I doubt it's doing any damage.

In my opinion, yes. At only $120 with trade it's definately a worthwhile mod.

just a quick question..by fitting the short shifter, does this in anyway cause damage to the internals of the box? asking because my car is only 1year old & has a heap of factory warranty left & if there was any problem with the g/box mitsi would say "get stuffed you got a s/shifter & that has caused the prob". so any long term short shifters please give feed back. dont say it wont happen..because if im invovled it will.

For anyone needing pics to know wtf I'm on about, here are a couple...

I'm talking about in the second pic, the bottom of the metal shaft hitting on the white plastic. It only happens when changing back to first gear and I think could easily be fixed by dremelling out a bit of the white plastic.

All the short shifter kit does is change the pivot point, making the distance needed to change gears shorter..
So its essentially doing the same thing as the stock one, only changing the travel distance that the hear knob needs to move. Nothing else..

Thats right, but by Changing the pivot point (in this case to shorten the throw) you are reducing the time available for the next gear to engage. This puts a bit more strain on the syncros, while this might not overly effect a good condition gearbox, it may shorten their life a fair bit on a box with some kilometres under it's belt. :P

No such thing as a shortshifter for an auto..
a short shifter is made for manual cars so that you can change gears in a shorter time, improving your racing times..
Since an autobox is automatic, its not needed or possible:D
For an automatic transmission u can get a 'shiftkit' that doesnt increase power or make the shifting quick, its mainly for cars with alot of power and dont want to blow the tranny.. u can google that in ur own time lol

Accually the idea of a shift kit for an auto, is to quicken the shifts.:) My cousin built his own (electronic shift kit, $20 in parts) for an AU, and the shifts are faster and harder then stock, the car will now chirp into second under heavy acceleration (even with the LSD and 235s).
