(This actually happened the other week, but it's the first time I've been home in daylight with a camera handy!)

6am, about to drive down the coast for a surf, I decided to do a quick once-over at a diy car wash, to get rid of the possum and tree crap. Pull into one of the bays, check it out, the selector knob is dodgy, so I go to reverse out to pull into the next one over. As I'm reversing, the hose wraps around my rearview mirror, whips the gun thing out of it's socket, and smashes it into my bonnet and windscreen!:tantrum:
Man was I pissed!:swearing:

Luckily no damage to my windscreen, but I got two bad scratches on my bonnet, one deep and about 20cm long, the other not quite so bad.
So, should I try a DIY fix (it's metallic), or would "the touch-up guys" or similar be reasonably priced for such a job?
Here's the deep one, right down to the metal; (not really worried about the dings, they are very minor, usually not noticeable)

fix it yourself,

i have found when respraying metallic i use a black(or a dark) undercoat, paint comes up more accurate (well for me anyway)
oh and i suggest you push (rub) out what you can with the dent... you don't want too much filler in there (too hard too explain but the just of it is different expansion rates mean you paint cracks)

anyway have fun :)
oh and may as well rub back the whole bonnet and respray..

I'd get the whole bonnet resprayed, depends on your skill level too if you can do it yourself.

Most paint shops will allow you to do the prep and they just spray it, keep that in mind, as costs will be cut dramatically.
Just remember when sanding, use a block, or expect fingerprints in the paintwork.

Use touch up paint on area
Let dry
Sand down with wet 2000 grit
rub over with meg's scratch x enough times for it to get all the minor scratches out

p.s. make sure it is the right color cause if its a shade off it will stand out:)

OMG, is that the first thing that Ol' Fart isn't able to buff out! You should be proud!!

It could also be a good opportunity for u to respray the entire bonnet flat black or something. Jap style lol

Would rather prefer not to have to do the whole bonnet. If I was to do the whole bonnet, probably may as well do the entire car!
I think I'll live with a touch-up. If I stuff up a DIY attempt, I guess there's no harm done!

My paintwork is in pretty good condition all over, save for some minor scratches. None of the faded patches that seem to be on half of the 2nd gens I see nowadays.
