whats more important to you ?

price or Handling, because i can tell you now, they are inversly related

If its Price. go with some Bridgestone RE92's ( $90ea. )

if its Handeling go with some eagle F1's ( 250 )

I am looking more towards the budget end of the market than the performance end.....not the absolute cheepest but not 250 a corner either. Good grip in a fast corner has not lost it's thrill so I suppose you could say I'm looking for the best of the budget tyres. Most of posts on this site involve 17/18/19 in performance tyres and some of the photos on this site with this rubber look like the ducks guts, especially when they are lowered. I may eventually weaken but for now it will stay standard.

just go to a couple of places and say, " I want the best tyres u can give more for $XXX " because u are not 100% peformance based any tires you get will suffice your needs.

whats your budget for all 4 tyres ?

Around $500-$600 would seem right.

so your looking at max 140 per tyre

mate id just go with Bridgstone Re92's

i got 4 fitted on my TE, including balancing and fitting and wheel alignment for $460

this will leave you with $100 to spend on Beer. beer is good.

Im looking into new tyres for my 206 Gti, but im looking around 300 a tyre so its a completely different ball game.

Ulciscor - I'll look into the RE92s and factor in the beer allowance (note to self, get beer after getting the rubber, it only works in this order).....I notice that Bob Jane has Michelin Energy XM1s for 119 and Yokohama AA01 Tyres for 109.....any opinions on these tyres?

The Steelcat RE92s seem to harden up after 2-3yrs more than other brands imho.
But my 4yo ER30s (stock fit on 16") seem to keep their grip ok, due for newies soon too.

Depending on the size you're after, check out the Goodyear Eagle GA/+ etc too.

Try some MAXXIS mate. Either the MA-Z1 or the MA-V1. Should be able to pick up some smaller ones (read: 205/60r16 or something at a guess) for about $150 or less a corner.

Ive just been looking at and getting some Bridgestone Turanza 592 ER592 this afternoon. They are a performance/touring tyre with plenty of grip in the wet and dry, and if rotated according to the free plan you get with them you will get loads of wear. They are also very quiet. Once they wear to a certain point the compound is different and you actually end up with as much or more grip than when they were new.
$155 per tyre and $59 for a wheel alignment.

Cheers
Pete

Price/longevity I'd go with RE92's. I had new ones on the car when I bought it and 3 years later and about 60,000 they still have legal tread. They're sitting in the garage now.

I would use second hand tyres. Normally pick them up for about 50 a corner.

If you ask to pick your tyres from their rack, you can usually pick the better tyres with more tread and if your lucky a good compound.

... all boils down to how much you value your life & your family's lives I guess. :doubt:

I have a TJII with standard rims and RE92s that have done about 5000k's. Perfect condition, quite happy with the handling and braking in wet or dry and they have plenty of tread. I'm looking to get 17" rims and am located in Sydney. Paid $130 per corner including balancing and alignment at Burwood.
Let me know if you are intersted in buying them as I'll work something out to go to 17's at the same time.
Cheers.

I think I will end up going with the Bridgstone Re92's....the concensus seems to suggest they are the best compromise tyre and if i'm not wrong they are suppied as rubber on new Magnas, Commodores and Falcons.....now to go shopping for a price and thanks for the offer Scorpion but I really do want new rubber. Cheers......this is a great forum with lots of good advice.

RE92's = long tyre life.
Thats there compromise - longlife vs grip.
My Re92's have about 4mm tread left and are about 3 1/2 yrs old and they do not inspire confidence in the wet even though they have adequate tread left. They felt ok when I got the car last Dec but now they seem to have noticeably reduced grip in the wet.
I will be getting a sports tyre next as I prefer the added safety from sports tyres over long life. The enhanced braking alone is worth extra $$ even if you are not a speed freak.

pirelli do a cheap budget tyre that i heard was good. around $120 a corner or sumthing.

in all serious though... $100ea for RE92's is gay.

look at 2nd hand tyres.... i found a nice set of yokohama A200's (2 only....only needed em for the front) they were 95% tread and $55ea (including balancing and fitting) so yeh for the price of basically one RE92 i got a much better tyre.

altho im back to re92's.....couldnt find any good 2nd hand ones last time lol.

Bridgestone RE92's for lastability.. for budget tyres, go Nexen's.. they're still as good in my opinion, haven't broken much traction in them yet. I got my nexen's for $75 ea fitted and balanced etc.

I have RE92's on my magna, ER30's on my falcon. ER30's seem much better for about the same price (but the ER30's are wider). Next time I'll go one up in the range but the ER30's are pretty good. RE92's last a long time but that is not a good thing, means they are a hard compund and don't stop you as well. Also more wheelspin on takeoff in a magna (fwd). ER30's are a little stickier but seem to be lasting well. Go the doughnuts !
