Hey all

Sorry to plaster another rims thread onto ya but i really need a hand. On the verge of shelling out up to 3k on new wheels and having a bit of a hard time deciding where to throw my money. At first I thought chrome would be the go but then I saw many members with machined or shadom chrome rims looking very tidy. I have a silver magna, click my sig for a proper pic, chrome may also not look good with my color.

I've decided 19" are probably the best way to go as they are almost legal and fill the wheel well nicely. Tempe Tyres is the only decent website I can find for wheels and there is a place in canberra that ships them from sydney free of charge and sometimes cheaper. The selection of tyre packages available in 19" is very slim but i've found myself growing fond of these particular rims.

They are a nice dark shade but not black and they are shiny but not blingy. They also fit in with what I fantasize about eventually doing to my car. Inspired by the lovely attached photochop by asylum of 97Altera's magna. I'm imagining the dark shade rims will tone down the flamboyance of the kit and will fit in perfectly with the dark inserts.

Also sorry to take advantage of peoples excellent photoshopping skills but could i get a chop of the rims onto that picture? Really interested to see if they look any good before I put any money down. Would also like comments, critisisms and suggestion regarding rims.

Cheers guys

Few things to consider here mate. First of all the legality of the rim itself. Secondly the legality of the tyres you're going with. Make sure they're the right rolling diameter. I think for 19's if you go for a 235 width tyre, the profile has to be 35 (someone correct if I'm wrong please) so you'll need 235/35r19 and also make sure they have the right load rating. For your model magna I think it's 94W. And third but most importantly, make sure it's ok with your insurance company before you go changing rims.

As for the rim itself, I'm not a big fan. Personally I would go with something like the ones Ulciscor posted in 18" and save myself a bunch of headaches with insurance, legalities and save myself a bunch of money when it comes to buying good quality tyres.

I like both rims posted so far, but like Disciple said, when your paying 3k+ on rims, make it legal, otherwise, you could find you have wasted a hell of a lot of money
Stick with the 18s, cheaper tyres as well, and they still look great!

those rims are hot!! get them. but for 3g make sure you're gettin some decent tyres, and by decent i mean not Nankang, or Wanli, or Linglong tyres.

forget the second ones. too common on xr6 utes

That wont be a photochop for long. Im slowing turning my car in to that. As for the rim i was looking at a similar color design to that and i think it would look awesome on that color car. Especially with the grey inserts on the skirts and front bar but even without that it would still look good. I'm bring pretty biased though.

I dont want too many spokes, makes the wheel look too busy. It was a big step for me to differ from 5 spokes. If we're gonna talk about wasting money on rims then I think 18" are a waste of money on a magna, especially if you have a dish. As The Difference has said numerous times dish makes the rim look smaller. Also in my opinion 20" looks very nice and 19" is probably the perfect size.

As for being legal it is near impossible to get legal 19" for my car anyway as the max width I am able to go is 7", which you wont be able to find on 19" (havn't found one yet anyway). I just wanna buy a rim that I wont regret later down the track, it's so hard to decide though esspecially with irritating legality issues.

My insurance says that they will be fine with the swap as long as the rims comply with RTA standards. I've even considered the engineers cert option but that is a whole new can of worms and i'm not even sure if that would make them ok by insurance standard.

I could always go with 18" and have thoroughly considered it but I anticipate that I would always feel like the car is missing something. Whod of thought someone could get so stressed out over modding their vehicle

By the way not having a go at anyone just been stressing out over this stuff for weeks. Do appreciate all the feedback.

I was in the same boat as you mate. Really wanted 19's. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought they weren't practical. I ended up going 18's and have never regretted it, because I know they are the best rim and tyre choice for my car. Cheaper by far than 19's for the rim and rubber, and easy to get replacement tyres cheaply too. Plus it's all legal and hassle free. That was my chain of thought anyway.

Dont go to Tempe Tyres go to Blaires in Narellan. Ive had problems with Tempe as far as product knowledge and honesty. They are same sort of prices but you are likely to get better service!!!

Yeah i'm looking at other places besides tempe as the guy who runs the place that deals with them in Canberra seems a little off, I dont think he could explain what offsets or profiles are if he tried lol could be wrong though.

Went into Bob Jane today and they seemed much more in tune, provided me with some good catalouges. A little more pricey but will be worth it to get what i'm after. I'm still trying to figure some way of getting 19s and still be insured but will have to see.

Gonna check out OZ Tyres on Wednesday so fingers crossed
