I was turning onto Kessels Rd on my way to Garden City and out of nowhere the TF jerked once.. I wasn't too worried.. But then.. IT BACKFIRED! Not Once.. but twice! I was like WTF?!
I stopped straight away.. took it to the side of the road and parked it.. let it idle to see if it was misfiring or something, but it wasn't. It just got a new tank of juice in about 35km ago, could it be the fuel? Its BP Ultimate in there.. The car hasn't been driven after that.. I got it towed home, the parents aint home for 2 more days, so I'd like it fixed before then. If anyone could help it would greatly be appreciated!

A heap of AU taxis in Adelaide have ockey straps around their airboxes because when they backfire they blow it off.

I hardly think what GTV explained was a controlled backfire.
GTV: Im not sure what caused that, but just sit tight and see if it happens again...if it does...take it to the mechanic and get em to check it out.

Is this backfirering:
With my car, I rev the gears, 1st to 40, 2nd to 80, 3rd to 120 (or something like that)... then I let off the gas, it then makes these noises as it climbs down to idle revs...
*broom*broom*pop*broom*broom*pop*pop*broom*
Are those "pop"s considered backfires? If so, is it good or bad, why, why not?

Well what GTV described to me sounds like it was a big backfire that's not normal...what you're talking about is those little grumbly backfires (I love them..mine does it with the lukey now ;))
If I have interpreted what GTV said correctly then it should prolly be checked...I dunno what would cause it...Im not a mechanic lol ;)

You could have had excess fuel and it has backfired through the cat converter or the cat converter could be on its way out.
Start the car and see if there are any small peices of carbon type stuffin teh exhaust as if it is its a good sign the cat covnerter has fallen to pieces.
You could have had a cylinder not running properly and then a gut full of fuel in the exhaust pipe.
Numerous reasons but the result is normally a blown cat converter if it was bad enough.
Advice- get to a mechanic and get them to inspect the car

Well.. I took it to the mechanic and he explained about carbon build up.. ra ra ra. He drained the fuel too just incase that was the case and used the Zupps Fuel Card to fill me up a new CLEAN full tank. All has been good so far.. But I want it to happen again so I can blame it on the cat and use the old man's company cheque book to pay for a new zorst.. :D
Thanks to all.. The parents come back in less then 3 hours and I have sh*tloads of washing to do, cleaning up, get rid of the marks in the carpet too.. :S
