hey guys,

just wondering what any of you guys with the grey non-colour coded bumpers use to clean em up. mine look great after i've just washed 'em but as soon as they dry they look ****e again. i want them to stay nice and dark all the time, not a mottled medium/light grey.

i still see some grey bumpers on some other magnas looking brand new- there must be a way!

Forever black Bumper treatment is actually a permant dye which lasts years, its about $16.50 a bottle and will cure your crappy bumpers!
Just make sure you give them a good wash down with dishwashing liquid before hand:)

I painted mine when they went spotchy; just colourmatch to a grey or charcoally black.

If you want to try something a bit safer, rather than painting, I just today used some tire shine stuff, (was also recommended for side skirting/bumpers), instead of faded grey they now have a nice deep bold grey, it looks great.

However I think this is tempory, will see how it goes when it gets wet.

my grandfather has a TS with those grey crappy bumpers and he uses baby oil on them.. that Johnsons and Johnsons stuff you get from the supermarket.. about $3 a bottle..

works really well..

but any type of silicon dressing would work, stuff like meguiars gold class endurance tyre shine or the likes..

just be careful, if you put anything like that on them, when washing your car that you use a seperate sponge/wash mit/brush for those areas as it will get in the sponge or whatever and you'll end up with it ALL over your car - and its a bastard to get off.. also dry them with an old rag or a seperate chamois..

Wouldn't tyre shine make it sticky?

no
and after a coat once a week (after you wash your car)
for about 4 weeks it tends to keep the look
may need a top up once per month

Well it's been pissing down with rain in melbourne today, and the tire shine, has managed to stay on! I'm impressed!

well, it seems like i be gettin' me some of that tyre-shine then!

jellmag, your TS looks great- those bumpers look new!
I actually don't mind the grey bumpers on the 2nd gens- from the front it makes the car look nice and fat. I don't mind the colour coded bumpers that still have the grey insert though.

I work in an Oil & Gas laboratory and sometimes when we dump someone's crude oil i use it on my bumpers- only stays nice for a week though. I'll try the tyre shine- see if lasts longer than the ol' dinosaur juice!

Just noticed today though, it tends to be picking up dust and dirt, will give the car a wash later and apply another coat. However it hasn't faded or anything
