Hey guys, getting towards the tail end of changing my head gasket. Got most if it back together and then the thin hose that goes from the water pump to intake manifold next to where the thermostat housing bolts on just falls off. turns out its all corroded where it attached and its broken of. What does this hose do? Can i just plug it up at both ends? If not does this mean i need a new intake manifold? As the stem that the hose clamps onto has broken off inside the hose and its so corroded it cant be fixed. I can take a pic if someone wants to see. Its the really small hose that attaches closest to the top of the water pump and goes to the top of the intake manifold next to the thermo housing.

Any help would be great,

Aaron

Yeah from memory that leads into the head, best to get it fixed, an aluminium welder should be able to weld a new bit of tube on there.

If it's a carby car, I have an intake manifold you can have here for $20.

I'm thinking i might be able to drill it out a bit then screw in a attatchment with some sealer on it. What you guys think?

Are you talking about the little pipe that is held on by two bolts to the intake manifold?

If so I can COD one to you tommorow.

A pic would be awesome!

Nah the hose goes into a thing thats a part of the actual inlet manifold on top next to where the thermostat attaches. I can take a pic and email it to you if you want. The hose is the smallest one that goes into the water pump.

It looks like it might be to bypass the thermostat to create a small amount of flow through the head before the thermo opens.

it's the bypass for the thermostat

So what is the actual point of it? Is it important? If i blocked up both ends would it be ok to start up?

it is part of the by pass system without u risk overheating the engine
