Hey folks,
Was thinking of getting tinted tail lights in my TJ, but I saw a TL VRX the other day with darker lights which looked pretty good and would be legal. Any ides if they would fit in a TJ/anyone actually done this?
Cheers.
(Tried doing a search but it ignores "TJ", "TL" and came up with 500 threads).

i'm 99% sure they'll fit.
also try searcing on eBay for "Black Performance Tail Lights"
not sure if they are adr'd or anything, looks just like they've been tinted with nightshades?

Sorry should have been more specific. I have seen a few around. I think they are standard VRX ones, just from a later model. The parts where the globes are and not tinted at all, just the surround, but they still look much nicer than the TJ ones which are red.

You need the TW ones. Fitting wise, I'm not sure, the TL/TW do have cleaner lines like
rounded bootlid corners etc. Although that won't affect the lights.

Try the wreckers, although there may not be that many TWs at the wreckers.

Thats more then what I got quoted mine was about $700 for the pair.
I ended up getting a set off antoher member who owns a TW VRX a few months back for $200. If you look around you should be able to find some.\
Even the TL/TW ES Taillights are better then the TJ ones because they don't have those lines through them.
Good Luck mate.

Thats right, they are clear red coloured.
trying doing a search on this forum for it. Someone else has done it on a TJ. I think there is a little gap ir misalignment due to the smoothed out boot of the TLs. Not a huge problem but there is a small misalignment...

Yours is a TW. I wanted to see the gap VRX was talking about when using them on a TJ. Also those lights are different again from the ones I saw, must be because it's a Verada prehaps.

looks better than i thought, didn't realise it wasn't the whole lense tinted, just having the other sections brighter would mean they are probably legal!
(id guess the light sections is probably about the same as the VRX, just darker everywhere else?)

It wouldn't be illegal to tint your own, just as long as you kept them light enough (say the same as the ones you saw) and the amount of light coming out of them was sufficient.

Here are the pics of my car with the TW VRX Taillights as you can see there is a minor bit where they don't line up with the boot but thats not very noticeable.

That looks nice!! I really want to do it, but I just don't want to pay that much. I was wondering about putting the fancy painter's masking tape (one that gives sharp lines) over the bits I want to keep normal shade, they using the nightshade stuff. With a compass and a sharp blade it should be OK. But if I screw it up :gtfo: only me to blame!

I would probably trace the outline onto some tracing paper first then cut some contact or similar to the right size and stick it over the lights.
