Argh, I've had this problem since I've bought the car. The car would idle at 1000 rpm's+ when Im at a set of lights. I could understand when its warming up in the mornings to exceed that, but this randomly goes on. It should idle around 800rpm for it to be normal. It sux alot now cause my car is an auto and would want to keep rolling forward when I stop, making it uncomfortable with the car jerking forward when I hit the brakes too hard + Im burning excess fuel . Anyone know whats wrong with it?

Yeh dude nearly everyone i know with a TE and even models up from that have had idle problems, mine has been doing that exact same thing for months and i have checked everything possible and no faults, even had mine up on the computer and still couldnt find a fault!!

best thing would be to take it to your mechanic and see if they can locate anything!!

u could just change yur idle through the screw on yur idle control see if that drops it down for u

ISC could be the culprit, have you even tried lowering the idle manually?

Theres no point in lowering the idle manually as it would only be a temporary fix when it idles up mysteriously... The funny thing is the car idles high and back to normal at different times, when it goes high it stays there on D (about 1000~1200rpms and EVEN higher on neutral) when im at the lights... I get pissed off and put it on neutral so I don't need to apply more braking pressure keeping the car stationary at the lights. But when I hit back on D to drive off on green, the car jerks hard like your lauching into a leap...

I was told its probably the air sensors or something due to moisture...
I am not too sure and need some suggestions or assistance.
Cheers guys

Ive always had the same problem, my mechanic who also owns a magna says its just the way the magna is, idles high and revs high when changing gears.
Think yourself lucky its only 1000, mine sometimes idles at nealry 2000.

Yeh as i said previous dude, there aint much that can be done, for some reason its a magna issue, ive taken it to my mechanics numerous times and nothing can be done. Its quite a shame that nothing can be done!!

Does it only happen when running air con?

Not sure if this will help, but could try disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the computer. Reconnect and drive. For about a week afterwards mine would idle significantly lower.

How can you say it's normal and can't be fixed when my car doesn't do it and i'm sure it doesn't do it from factory?
Obviously somethings caused it to rise, have you guys checked your idle speed controller?

I had the opposite problem on mine, and as far as I can tell ISC is the culprit, so I suggest you try what M4DDOG is telling you.

I loosened the screw on my throttle body, and it fixed the problem, it idles higher, more towards the normal range. However, its a temporary fix, I will be taking it to Mitsubishi to see if they can do anything about it.

Nah it happens when aircond in off. I understand it should idle high when the a/c is on because its running an extra belt, but this is not the case. It idles high like your about to accelerate off making it a very unpleasant feeling when your trying to brake as your applying much more pressure.

Tightening that screw would make my car fall below 800 rpm during normal idle- and it will turn out the same as your car- idling too low... The problem is when the idle goes high it stays there(about 1500~) no matter how the car is driven but will fall back to its normal idle at unexpected times- it does not swing erracticly but you'll definitely notice that its idling at more then 1000rpm when the car is well driven out of the cold, its kinda like having another automatic choke apart from the one at cold start. Thanks for the help anyway, I'll be looking forward hearing from your Misubishi dealer about this.

ISC, let me say it again, ISC lol. Exact same thing happened to my last magna and it was the ISC, or TPS, can't remember. Just replace both and you'll be right :).

Sounds like the ISC to me. I have one for sale attached to a bonus TPS and throttlebody if you are interested. See sig.
