Just joined the forum. Great site.

Having been a Holden man all my life I must admit a soft spot for the 3rd gen Magna.

I have had the following,

1/ TF ADVANCE COMPANY CAR
2/ TJ EXEC COMPANY CAR
3/ TJ ADVANCE COMPANY CAR. I preferred this car to my VX Commodore S. Esp up top.

I just purchased a TL LS 2004 for the wife and kids for $13,700 with 58,000km. We love it.

I have a few questions if you don't mind,

1/ I have found a TF Altera Auto 1998 for $7000 with 98,000km on it. I reckon I can get them down to $6500. The problem is I can't really recall the old 3.0L motors performance. Is is that far behind the 3.5L?

2/ Is the TF auto a smart logic box or should I try to hunt down a TH onwards?

Nice buy on the TL!

If you are set on getting an Auto, I would definately try to get a 3.5. There is a huge power loss through the Auto boxes. You should easily be ablt to get a TH or even a TJ Auto for under 10k.

i agree wit poita... the power loss is silly to put it nicely. a tippy would b a great way to go. planty of TJs available at a reasonable price... shop around a bit first :) and keep us posted on what u find plz, it will b great to hear bout it!!

I don't have to have an auto. The wife can't drive manual that's all. It doesn't really matter as the TL is an auto.

BTW is the manual box in an TH,TJ any good and does it make the magna more fun to drive?

Im a huge fan of the Auto's simply for the smoothness of the ride, but I have been in manual 3.5's and all I can say is DAMN!!! they are fun to ride in, so I imagine driving one is even better!

hehehe, the manual versions are awesome. fun??? you betcha.

If you get the 3L manual they are very quick machines, the 3.5L is a very quick machine too, the auto's suck really compared to the manual magna's, so if you can find one snap it up.
