Cost price for springs are about $200 for both sets, so they're charging you just under $300 in labour for something that'll take them about an hour and a half....

try and get hold of some mates and a rattle gun or 2...my mate and his brother used to be able to do a whole car in 25mins
and make sure u use spring compressors! i think they are bout $15 from supercheap/repco?
Matty_J

Yeh most places charge about 250-300 labour but all depends on where you go, and if you have never lowered a car before i wouldnt suggest for you to try it without someone who knows what they are doing!!
Get the springs yourself then call around to see who will do the job for the cheapest price!!

Leigh.. Dont talk crap..
The springs cost between $220 - $265
The cost usually includes an alignment. This costs between $45 - $90
Labour is about an hours work.
$490 is fine if you dont want to do it yourself.

25 mins for a whole car?
Jacking, undoing wheels, struts, removing backseats and trim etc? rofl.. yeah right..
That means each corner as well as the above are taking them just on 7 minutes.. I find that very hard to believe.
Spring compressors also cost between $30 and $45 for decent twin claw's at each end. I just bought a new set yesterday as my other ones have finally worn out from excessive use.

Well if you wanted to go really cheap you could go and search a second hand pair, although i would just buy them brand new, this is the auz distribution list http://www.kingsprings.com/king_springs_distribution.htm
call the closest place to yourself and see what they quote, shouldnt be more then $250 for the front and rear!!
Good luck

Just got some prices. A friend of mine works
at a repco and im gonna get the full set of King lows for $180.
Awesome.
There is always the" have the factory springs compressed " price of $220 all up if your ride isnt too old- Ive had my 03 Escape and Verada done like this without drama and selected the exact height I wanted my car to ride at........ put then Im not a purist and price was a factor. No one seems to have mentioned this option.

Is that how much it costs all up to do that?
Ive got the Koni springs on my ralliart, so i think
they are better than king springs, who does a job
like this??

i got mine done in Toowoomba awhile ago and it was $350 fitted with any spring combination so i got lows on rear and superlows on the front which were lovells plus $50 on top of that for a wheel alignment so $400 which i thought was a bargain
I had mine done by www.buyitdirect.com.au wheels and tyres they took a day and the ride
is perfect- Mahoneys rd Thomastown. While the wheels were off got them to paint my calipers red, in caliper paint for 30 bucks and didnt even buy my initial rims and tyres off em.
Went in with d'Corsa 19 in shadow chromes and measured the ride height that I wanted.
they sent them out to be compressed and picked the car up in the arvo. Since then they have supplied and fitted my spinner rims and tyres and they take their time, get the job done and actually give a rats............Im sure if you mentioned AMC youd get a discount.
It was much cheaper than the change over spring route and I got to select the actual ride height I wanted straight up- no shocks afterwards. Hope this info helps since then Ive had another mob do my Escape- in Epping that was $240 all up . And now the d'corsa 19's
are on the lowered Escape. The only reason I went with another mob on the Escape is
buyitdirect werent that experienced in 4wd's.

It looks like they might give you a discount cos of the AMC. Only one problem.....
Im in WA. lol
ooops yeah well not that much of a discount- but most tyre places can organise it- even in weeranjiranjiralup lol so yeah have a hunt around

I got the dealer to do it, he colour coded the strips/mirrors, lowered it on kings and whacked on 17" mags for nothing, providing i bought it lol.
My mate qouted me $400 for superlows (want lower) installed at his workshop, i think thats about standard price.

I bought a set of lows and super lows off someone here for $170, still brand new. Found another member who would've charged me ~$80 but we exchanged services instead.
I think $450 was the going price when I was looking around, obviously you can get it done cheaper if you can find some 2nd hand springs and someone to help you.

lol cost me 4 beers and a night with bain (scary :P).
Sorry didn't realise that included a wheel alignment as well. Still even if springs were $265 plus $90 for wheel alignment, that's $355, still $140 for an hours labour, i would have thought labour would be around $50-60.

...don't do it yourself.
Getting the front struts off was a pain the ***... and you HAVE to get a wheel alignment after you put them on, so I still had to pay up anyway.
But $240 is what I paid for the springs anyhow (King Superlow Fronts, low rears).

i paid $600 fitted for all 4 springs (Kings lows and superlows) and Monroe GT gas in the front (already had them in the rear), plus wheel allignment. So taking out the front shocks, $450 sounds about right

i just got my car lowered on tuesday, cost me about 200 bucks for the springs and another 300 bucks for them to be installed, would have been 35 bucks cheaper but i had to get an alignment done on the rear aswell. oh i have king springs super lows and lows installed on koni shocks

when i first lowered my car i bought springs from Anthony (Phillcom rally) and got a member to install it for me. springs were $220 for kings super low fronts and low rear delivered to my door step)
then i wanted it lower so i gave it a go and man its not that hard. for the front struts theres 3 bolts on top and 2 at the bottom strut slides out compress spings undo the the top put in new springs and reverse process
for rears you have to remove the back seats and the bolts are under the parcel shelf 3 bolts on top and 1 bolt at the bottom and do same as wat u did for the fronts.
you can give it a go worse case is you cant undo the bolts or to much to do then get it done. u will be saving alot on labour

yeah its pretty easy but when it comes to the koni shocks its a different story trying to take to nut off to take the spring out. i hope you got some allankeys to take the nut off, oh and you'll need an open ended spanner but make sure you dont strip it always you gotta buy a new shock

$300?
If your mechanic charges you $300 to whack some springs on, run far, far away from him. In reality it should take around 2 1/2 hours (including wheel balance)... I reckon just above $170 labour?
If you haven't done anything too hands on to your car before I dont recommend starting by installing your own springs. You'll take someones eye out.

I got quoted $450 for pedders sports ryder or king springs. The dude suggested pedders because their warranty include labour to replace them (at a pedders dealer) as well as the spring cost, unlike king springs.

When I was lowering my car I first of all looked at our sponsors, but after a lot of looking around I found the best prices on ebay from 'the-suspension-wizard'
Around $230 for kings super low front and low rear
Around $430 for KYB Excel G all round.
I thought these were decent prices considering some of the quotes I got. Instead of ordering through this guy I saved myself another $30-40 on delivery and took the prices to Mermaid suspension up here on the gold coast and they said they could match the price (whos knows how much lower they can go!) $200 for labour, $50 for wheel alignment
Because these suspension places get their stuff from the same distributors, if you take a price for them to match they will most likely do it, thats if they're not too busy.
