Hi all.

Yesterday I went to open the bonnet on my KR. Pulled on the release lever,
it went "sproing" and the lever now just moves back and forth easily - not
attached to the cable any more.

I can still open the bonnet by pulling on the frayed ends of the cable, behind
the release lever, with pliers.

Has anyone here changed this cable? Is it a time consuming and/or fiddly
job? If it is, I will get the workshop to do it - but if its an easy job I can do
it myself and save a few bucks in the process.

Advice will be appreciated!

Ahh the old bonnet release cable. Mine went about 1 year ago and havent bothered to get it fix, just use plyers that sit in my glove compartment.

I asked how much it would be too fix once and they said roughly $100.00 to buy and install, so since then I just cant see spending an extra 100bux for that.

Someone might of changed it themselves, but it looks like a pain in the a*s too do.

Just tie the ends together, or tie each end to a piece of wire to kinda join them.

Did this in my TR and worked, and you dont see it anyway.

..Or you could use Coat Hanger Technology (reg. TM).
Coat Hanger Technology (reg. TM) will not only save you money but it will also allow you to have an externally located bonnet release mechanism. Deluxe!

Coat Hanger Technology (reg. TM) can also be ergonomically adjusted to suit both hand types (left and right).
If fitted correctly, Coat Hanger Technology (reg. TM) bonnet release mechanism can also pick up AM and FM radio transmissions.

Remember, always keep a coat hanger in your toolbox!

Er....thanks for the tip! I'll keep it in mind!!

Haha.

Looks like I'll have to delve into the Manual to see if I have to
do a contortionist act under the dash....not my cup of tea
these days.

Not keen on paying a hundred bucks or so for a mechanic to do
it in five minutes either......even though it would probably take
me a couple of hours to do the same thing!

Oh well, I don't think the pliers is a good solution, I will let you
know if I do it myself and how long it takes me...

Regards,

just add on a extra peice of wire, through the hole on the release and connect it tight to the wire, cheap and works
