Hi all,

I picked up a brand new Alpine 9857 headunit last night for my 2000 KJ Verada EI. I have stock front speakers (2 tweeters 1 mid) and alpine 6x9s in the rear. I wired it up today going by the colour codes found here - http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32761.
I turned on the headunit and it powered up fine. Everything works as it should except I have no sound from my speakers. This happens with the cd player and tuner. I double checked wiring and it was all done correctly. I checked the manual for troubleshooting and it said to enable the internal headunit amp in options if there is no sound. I checked the options and that was already enabled. I thought maybe it didn't like the front speakers so I tried disconnecting all the fronts at the speakers but that didn't help.

Is it likely the headunit's amp module is damaged? I'm thinking the best thing to do now is leave it all wired up and take the car to where I purchased the headunit and get them to try another headunit in the car to see if that works.

Any ideas from you guys? Anyone experienced the same thing?

Thanks.

get it fixed by a pro mate, also may wana test the faders to the front to see if any sound is comin through the front, and test all speakers if ya havnt already,i leave stereo installs to the profesionals,my speakers didnt work once it was cos one of the wires conected to the speakers were faulty and had to be replaced, best to get it checked out, hope ive helped:)

hmmmm thats strange.
i'll guess that the speakers were working before the new h/u was installed.
you said that the fronts werent working, so are the rears working? or is there no sound coming out from any speakers?
maybe somehow the sound has be converted to the rear speakers thats if they are working.
check all the connections again at the back of the h/u unit and speakers as well.
did any sound at all come out when you turned the h/u on?

Front and rears were working fine before install with stock headunit. I get no sound at all from either now.

No sound when headunit is switched on.

I've install a few headunits before as they are pretty straight forward and I have never come across this problem.

All connections are correct going by the wiring colour codes linked in my first post. All connections are soldered and insulated with heatshrink.

yeah h/u are pretty easy to install
try resetting the deck to see if it changes anything
also check to see if the deck has mute on which i dont think it will buts its worth a shot
but yeah it sounds to me like a faulty h/u just take it back to where you got it from and let them sort it out

Tried reset and mute is off.

Beginning to think it is faulty, which is strange for a brand new Alpine out of the box. Hopefully I can get it exchanged without hassle or else there goes 500 bucks down the drain.

hmmmm well you might be lucky if they replace it
just hope they dont turn around and say that it was done because of a faulty install
but yeah its worth a try they should be able to connect it up at the back and see what the problem is
good luck with it mate

If you've reset it and tried d/cing various wires and still nothing i'd say it's faulty. Get them to test it where you bought it from.
