Ok I did use the search button and I read what all the other have said but mine is different.

If I'm cruzing at 80 and I accelerate the car shudders same goes if I’m cruzing at 100. And this isn’t a soft shudder it’s bad. It feels like the wheels are being held by 1 bolt and its about to come off. This happened today on our way to the drags. I did pull over and checked all the wheels nuts but all was tight as.

The front wheels aren’t shaking so it’s nothing at the front so there’s either something at the back or engine/tranny problem. Now for the past month or so my rear wheel bearings are making a rubbing vibrating noise so I know that’s on its way out but would this be causing the shudders?

It also shudders when I let go of the accelerator e.g. it starts to shudder at 100 so I let go of the pedal and it shudders till it get below 80 or so.

I would like to get this fixed by Thursday so I can take my car up to Wagga Wagga so any help will be awesome.

Thanks
Ash

Does the gearbox kick down from 4th to 3rd at the same time it shudders?? If so, I've experienced the same thing. A trans flush fixed the problem 30 odd thousand km later - haven't experienced it since.

nope it stays at watever it is unless the revs drop and it really needs to change like normal. 2moro ill service the trans and see if thats changes anthing. hopefully that fixes it

when a wheel bearing went in my ol' sigma, it did so quite catastrophically. it could very well have been showing signs of imminent failure but it was probably masked by the myriad of other neglect induced suspension/steering ailments that it had.

what you describe sounds just like what i had in the sigma. except it was at all speeds. very quickly the bearings disintegrated and failed completely luckily i was doing about 30kph when that happened and i was 50m from work.lol

it was an outer bearing so i fixed it during lunch.

i'd be really worried about driving your car. having said that- if it's really bad you might be able to get someone to follow you and watch your wheels from a safe distance as you hit 80- they might see something obvious.

could also be an engine or gearbox mount. if you leave it in 1st and 2nd gear do you get the shudder at the same RPMs?

Mr_Roberto

i'll just get the rear bearings replaced asap and see if the problem is still there. do you hear any thumping noise?

Ashneel
01-10-2006, 07:36 PM
no thumping noise

and DDT i didnt check if it did it on 1st and 2nd on the same RPMs but comming home at the light id take of normally and hit 80 and wont shudder at all then all of a sudden it will come back.

how much would rear bearings cost?

is it hard to do?

Possible that you've lowered the car so much that you've damaged something in the suspension?

sif my car is lowered to much. i can still fit 1 1/4 finger in the back wheel arch and 1.5 finger in the front. i can go another inch or inch and half at the back and an inch in front lol

dont think its supension coz that would make my car bounce or not bounce at all or just bleed like a mofo

have you check everything around the wheel bearings?
might just be a loose joint or screw somewhere

Ashneel

i havent checked much coz by the time i got home it was dark so early 2moro morning ill have a look.

what i also wanted to know was can i inspect the bearing without pulling it apart for the car? like just take of wheel and have a look?

have you got a workshop manual for your car?
this site is where you can download one if you want one http://www.thehammer.net/magna/
cause im reading up on it and it say you gotta remove the calliper assembly and brake disc before you can check it

The last time I had this problem was just due to a huge amount of sand stuck to my rims, and I have to clear them. But yours seems like something else is causing it.

Basically my car shrudder bad when I was at 80kmh plus with the amount of sand that was affecting the car.

another common problem is the "inner CV" that joins the 2 shafts that makes up the drivers side driveshaft. it has a bracket that is bolted to the back of the block, and when it wears, is know to cause serious vibrations

I had my inner CV on the left side go, and yeah I got exactly the conditions your describing, cost a bit to fix but was like new afterwards. And it only gets worse, not better so get the cv's checked out dude.

Another thing it could be is flat spots on yre wheels? that would explain it @ higher speeds. have ya done any hand brakies lately? But would be prob better to get a mechanic look @ it they will tell ya whats wrong with it.

From memory it cost $370, I got that one done and the two outers at the same time from a guy in Toowoomba that only does CV joints, I have been back to him for the verada as well cause I think thats a fairly reasonable price.

While it is on the hoist, really check the tyres for "out of round". Or a wobble, bent or distorted rim.

BTW the out of round can be up and down, not just in one place like a flat spot.

Hope this helps

Sounds like CV's.
Good local guy who is resonably priced is Dallas at CV Joint.
Theyre in Bennet St, Dandenong Ph:1300 365 757
At least get him to check it out for you.

thanks for that boost. its going to mitsi 2moro and all they will be doing is just a check up to see if its the rear bearings and also i mentioned to them bout the CV so they will look at that and tell me what it is. if its CV i'll give these guys a call and get it done asap coz id really like to take my car to wagga wagga for this mini MM06

will let you guys now what the problem is 2moro

yes the problem is fixed and OMFG it was the most simplest things ever. my left rear springs (compressed kings) got out of the groove thing and managed to turn almost half an inch out of its groove thing which resulted in basically not bouny from the springs. if it did bounce the coils would hit each other which made my car shudder. strange but thats what the problem was.

i drove it 2day before i even checked the springs and it did shudder and once i popped the springs back in place the shudder was gone.

so ye YAY :D

thanks for all your suggestions guys.
