Hey guys,

Ive had a fairly consistant probem with my trans for a while now (nearly a year). Whenever the car is cold it has a lot of trouble shifting up from first to second, its like it slips for little with the engine just revving for a second or two and then engages with a kick, a very delayed change at about 3,000 rpm. The strange thing is that the first two changes after you start the car are fine and then the problem starts and then after you have been driving for about 20 minutes there is also almost no noticable problem.
Obviously with the car getting on a bit (200,000) the trans will be showing some wear, but the intermittent nature of the problem has me ssupecting some sort of electrical issue over a mechanical problem....

Any ideas??

if it's a computer fault, some of the guys have mentioned D/C the battery and reconnecting. this seems to solve some issues so try this if you haven't given it a go.

i also have had an intermittent prob on my car for a long time and it hasn't been solved. the auto trans likes to slip into neutral at times, especially when going up slopes. this seems to happen more often when the engine's not fully warmed up. but i've had occassions where the thing happens even when i've been driving around for a while. after it slips itself into neutral, the fastest way to get it to engage again is to shift to N and back to D. it's like the gearbox forgot that it's engaged in D.

went to mitsu, took their advice and left the car overnight with 'em, replaced the ATF, reset to ecu... no help. so i've decided to just live with it till i get a new car. my point is, usually with auto boxes, you either live with it or spend a lot of money to rectify the problem. hope this helps.
