Aye
Finally im buying my own magna. '96 TE Altera V6 Auto, its got 197km on the clock with a perfect body and paint all for just $3500. Been driving my dads 93 TR 2.6 since ive had my P's so this is gunna be a welcome relief from that fuel guzzeling beast. Just wondering about one or two things on it. The brake pedal felt very stiff and dunno if thats indicating a problem or normal for a TE and second just wondering about the performance of the 3.0lt V6. Compared to my dads TR it does feel alot more powerful but I was expecting sumthing similar to my mates VS Commodore, I intened to do extractors, exhaust and cold intake but was just a little (only a little) dissapointed by the stock performance. Either way im buying this baby I love my magnas but just wondering if those two are normal? CHeerS

Dont be over disappointed. That is a great car for the money.. Altera has a good electrics package which will also add weight to the car in terms of performance against a stocko commodore, and remember is an auto 3L. Commodores although engine screamers were 3.8L in that era. Enjoy your new ride:D

Cheers mate, do you have any suggestions for and exhaust set up? I'd like it to have a deep note but with out much drone, Ive heard a few other 3lt that are heaps high pitched and sound like a small car and would like to avoid that.

The Commodore will beat your Magna, but your TE 3.0 Auto will be ALOT closer to it than the TR/TS 2.6 :)

The Auto's suck too much power, and the 3.0L is only 255nm to begin with.

But trust me, you will enjoy it alot more than the TR/TS :)

Come on....a VS 3.8 against a TE 3.0 Auto.......the VS would win. Maybe not by a huge margin, but it would. A Manual would probably be a different case however.

Im not getting into a discussion about it :) its a bit OT.

My TF eats VT 6's.. lol 1st gear next to a VT will be dead even start to end, and 2nd gear, my 3.0 pulls away from all the VT 6's I've been up against. All the ones I have been up against have had cold air induction and bigger zorsts, mine just has zorst.

If a VT Manual driver gets the gears right, they have the advantage of takeoff, but if it's a long race, the magna can make up for it and pull them in if it's running right

yeh but generally speaking VT's are fat and slow :P

All other things being equal an auto VS 3.8L should beat an auto TE 3.0L, albeit perhaps by only a car length or 2 over the quarter.

And no, a street race to the contrary is not hard evidence against this :P

VT autos definetly aren't quick cars, but back on topic........... just take pleasure in the fact that your magna will feel and look alot newer than your mates VS commodore (if it's been well looked after), thanks to a higher standard of build quality. And with a manual conversion - you should have a car that will hold it's own against most 6 cylinder cars on the road.

if youre thinking of doing a lot of mods on a 200kms car, why dont you just spent that money on getting a 3.5 auto or manual?

or a car with less k's too start with

However the whole 'ks' thing is a personal choice, people think that cause the car has more k's that automatically its not as good - its just how society looks at it.

Can't believe it, Drove that Altera Yesterday, called up today and its been sold. Buggar. Anywho found another one, in Sydney. Same everything down to it being Altera but has about 30,000 less k's. BooYAH!

Looking for a manual at all? If you are keen on an auto for whatever reason, fair enough, but by the sounds of it you are keen on the performance aspects of it, so i suggest at least test driving a manual, I can guarantee you will be hooked.

I'd absolutely love a manual but Im a bit restricted by the moneys. I only have about 3500-4000 and have been finding it kinda hard to get a manual for less than 5000 but Autos are going fairly cheap. Cash which is also why I can't get the 3.5lt just dont have the money for it out right.
