View Full Version : Accident in TH 3.5
Hi everyone,
I had a fairly big accident about 4 weeks ago, when the car lost control on a greasy road and hit a concrete barrier . Not pretty but im ok not injured or anything and the airbags didnt go off either.
Now after 4 bloody weeks after being told bullshit that the cars ready la la la im getting my car back. My question to u all is, how can I tell if the car is all good? The thing is i was kinda expecting the car to be a write off. The front right of the car was hit the headlight smashed, the bonnet semi crumpled. Apparently I was told there is a bit of suspension damage.
I just hope that it wasnt repaired despite it should be a write off. WHere can I go and what should I do to check the car out? If I find out the car is f*#%$d im gonna be pissed off coz i owe more on it that the cars worth.
I miss my magna!
Thanks in advance
Chris

Bugger!
Not a nice thing to hear, What you can do is take it to RACQ/NRMA etc. and ask them to check the car and all that. They should do a check of it all and report back to you on the quality of the work.

you'd think the chassis could have bent, i hit a barrier and twisted mine!!
check for crabbing etc and if theres any dents in the engine bay or get it inspected over with a UV light

get it inspected over with a UV light
whats that do? never heard of that? im noob
UV im assuming is Ultra Violet Light which can detect even the slightest hairline crack in a metallic surface.

Asumming the assesor did his/her job properly, the car would have been a write off if the body (chassis is an incorrect term as modern cars dont have them) is bent or twisted. That would be my main concern as it will affect steerng, handling, braking etc. I would just take it for a drive and see how she responds. You know how the car used too behave, does it track straight or crab. Does it take corners like it used too. The other issue is the quality of the workwanship. Things like paint, fit of panels especially the bumpers. If their is any aspect of thr workmanship that your unhappy with, stand your ground and get the repairer too rectify it.
Dont be afraid to tell them if you think the job isnt good enough.
Good luck
Nigel
Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice.
Nigel, so that means if I take the car for a drive, and it doesnt drive the way it used to, I can actually go back adn tell them to do something about it?

something like that, or you could get the chassis inspected to see if they did a good job, i doubt it will be perfect, mine isnt, but you'd hope is only a few mm out ;)

ouch! i'd hope that it drives like it did b4....... looking at the paint on my TH, i'm sure it was pranged slightly before i had it (some of the panels don't match very well) i don't have any problems with handling or anything so hopefully it is something that can be fixed properly.... but yes if u do have any problems definately take it back to em, it's they're job 2 fix it, not just dodgy it up to make it look ok!
i had a head on colision in my 94 ED falcon in september. to cut a long story short - the engine came off its mounts and pushed the whole dash forward at me (hit the car at about 70k/h) - anyway - i'm ok - all is good.
the point is this - when it was inspected - they [insurance] was going to pay to repair it - as it was insured for 10 - and the quote to fix all was about the 8 or 9 thousand mark - they dont care by how much less it was - as long as it was less than paying me out - they prefered to fix it.
the repairer said that they can make sure that the body [chassis (sorry :))] is perfect and as new (it WAS bent), as they have equipment that stretch it all into place. so aparently they can fix things like that.
i decided that the insurer should just pay me about 8 thousand for the car - and we'll call it quits, after negotiating (as they didnt want to pay that much) - they paid up 7500 - which went towards the new Magna :D - as well as the 400 that i got for the wreck of the falcon.
Hi guys,
What a shit christmas break ive had.......I picked up the car from the repairers on christmas eve.....As soon as I got into the car and was driving away, the a/c was/still is making a very loud sound like there is something stuck near the fan in there and also the rear is making a kinda screeching sound. I think they are the wheel bearings...The back wasnt hit so why are they making that sound??? Anyway they had the height to tell me that I have to bring it back to where I bought it because they should look at it! I said mate, I want the car back exactly how I brought it to you. Im paying shitloads of insurance so I expect it to be done as you do!!!!!!!!!
Anyways, upon driving it home, the front left indicator housing fell out! The whole bloody indicator piece. So now there is only wiring there. Also near the front left tyre, the plastic housing around the wheel arches came out and was scraping against the tyre...I had to take it off. Lastly, there is a short circuit in the car so the indicators dont work, neither do the power windows, so one of them is left open for now....F$*k I could scream!
Worst thing is, the repairer place is over an hours drive from my home!!!!!

I really feel for you. What a crappy christmas. As I said in my last post, take the car back and stand your ground. He/She will probably try to fob you off and tell you its not their respondibilty as they dont care as they have got their money for doing the job. To get any justice you will have to be strong willed and deal with the repairer first. If you get no joy then you will have to take the matter further. Document everything that is not right with the car and ask too see the manger with your complaint. Just remember to keep your cool. While not trying to defend them, they may have been busy and under lots of pressure in the lead up to Christmas and subsequently didnt check the car over throughly. Still no excuse. Good luck with it all.

I won the fight!!!!!! I brought the car back and they fixed everything!!!!! Im so happy...They fixed everything I asked for which they said werent part of the accident...THey did the altenator, fan belts, wiper motor, a leaf was in the a/c unit box and wheel bearings...the car is exactly how i brought it there..........just goes 2 show if u persist u can get ur way!!!!!
