Hey guys

My TJ VRX is doing something a bit strange.

Today at 4.10 pm i started the car and it didn't start. Tried again , nothing. Waited 15 secs or so, it starts as if nothing ever happened. At 10pm today, start it again, it starts and then dies. Start again rev up and no problem.

I had the same problem last week and the week before. The strange thing is that it happens only once a week.

Its done 111,000kms, evrything thing so far has been done timing belt, mobil 1 oil, has 6 iridium spark plugs fitted 10,000kms ago, new fuel filter, has the injectors cleaned 10k kms.......
Hmmm. Help!!!

How old is the battery? Is it the Mitsubishi diamond one?

The oem battery is notorious for half dying - it will exhibit the symptoms that your describing. What will happen is that the battery is unable to support enough current to the BCM which will cause the immobiliser to activate.

8/10 its the battery (not enough CCA to BCM/not enough CCA at all), 1/10 its the ignition system (loose plug etc), 1/10 its something else.

I don't think it would be battery related coz it was the battery it would not start after 2 minutes.

However its happening evryday now and specially in cold weather or when i start the car in the morning. A friend at work told me it might be the immobiliser.

I searched the forums and found that there's a 75% chance its the immobiliser .

Can i check that myself? if so can anyone PLEASE give me instructions of how to do it. PLEASE PLEASE

thanks

Flakey battery does that; hey I got TWO 3rd gens and they both did that when their batteries are on their last leg.

If your battery is over 3y old, just change it for peace of mind.

as everyone else has said i guarantee its the battery.. had the same thing happen, or it would turn over then stall becasue it was not firing.

in the end i got out the old multimeter... and what did i see... not throwing out full voltage.. charged it.... started ok 4 times then back to square one

change it.. those diamond batteries really suck.

Took the car to Chadstone Mitsu today and they did something to the ECU (reset base idle or something).... $49

We'll see how it goes

Battery was fine. had it tested 2 times (Kmart and Mitsu)

In my experience, the "Reset base idle" card is their way of saying NFI what's wrong with your magna but we want some $$ from you all the same. Good luck tracking down the problem. Could still be battery. May be showing intermittent signs of carking it! Weather is a bit warmer now so may be masking the batteries failings.

the immobiliser is the main cause of this problem theres a wire under the dash that goes frosty or gets a bad conection. normaly if you unplug it and plug it back in it fixes the problem

the wire runs from where the key goes in and down near your right foot i think its a 2pin conector
