Hey guys I know you get what you pay for, so as far as price versus performance what is
your favourite power increase mod for price and with so many gadgets out there like this "http://www.force-flow.com/ how many useful products are there? How many are there to avoid? and what can you buy for around "$4,000.00" that would be the best mod for a
day to day driver? on a 99 kh verada? and manual conversion probably isnt an option.

I don't see you getting anywhere close to forced induction for anything less than $9 or $10k. With other mods, i'm sure its been covered time and time again, use the search feature.

For 4K you could probably throw on a turbo if you did as much work yourself as possible because a full EMS is atleast 2/2.5K with a tune and if you want SERIOUS RELIABLE forced induction power your going to crank that slapper open and you'd easily blow 4K on internals and a turbo let alone a manifold, tune, new exhaust, engineering cert and better brakes.

for 4K i'd recommend staying on the N/A side because its easier to get reliable power (however not as much) cheaper. get a piggyback, ralliart cams, higher comp pistons, custom headers and all that jazz. that's probably tipping over 4k but you get the idea.

No one ever seems to think of insurance time when modding a ride. remember your insurance if you turbo a magna - get a quote from your ins company before you do any mods to plan your bet route or you could be spending half of your 4k budget on annual insurance.

If it's forced induction you want........ then forget about the promises of these "electronic supercharger" manufacturers. They are rubbish, and if you don't want to believe that - then this thread should be closed right now.

Now, real forced induction for a 3.5L magna, your options are as follows:

* Sprintex supercharger kit
* Custom single turbo install
* Twin turbo install utilising RPW manifolds and dump pipe as starting point.

Sprintex kits are the cheapest, quickest and probably most reliable option as well as having a (limited) warranty attached. Do a search for Sprintex S/C's..... there is tonnes of info about them on this site.

Single turbo install. Quite a few people have contemplated this - only 1 or 2 people that I know of have done it. A GT35-40 is probably a good, readily available turbo option for a single setup on a 3.5L

Twin turbo setup. RPW produce manifolds and Dump pipes for a very compedetive price (compared to having them fully custom made), and they will give you a good base to work with. Do a search on twin turbo setups, and you will pretty much be able to read all about my install + abit about Velocity, TooSlow and Mitsimans cars as well.

BEHR, not flamming you but this is another one of those "I wanna get 400KW+ ATW for $200" threads.

It's just not possible unless you can get parts very cheap or you are extremely mechanically minded.

Most respected performance shops will tell you the minimum amount of money to spend for forced induction would be no less than arund $8000. (For a proper job)

If you cut corners and do it cheap, you may end up giving yourself more headaches later on down the track when things are blowing up or wearing out.

The cheapest form of Induction would be saving about $3000 more and go for a sprintex supercharger kit as it is realiable and has a warranty.

Hope some of this info helped.

Take it easy,

from what i have seen on here from different members rides and the choices they have made i think an NA setup would be best for you

to me it really seems that unless u are chasing big big BIG numbers and have big cash then forced induction

for example look at how much it costs to get the sprintex super charger getting it installed compared to getting headwork, cams and an inlet manifold and ull probably find ull save more on the NA set up with near the same power, where as the rpw turbo magna cos gone far and beyong just the usual turb set up and out does any NA magna known to AMC

for the price u are after assuming u dont have connections and couldnt do the work urself the cost would not justify the means

plus, i think a luxery spec verada with a set of lumpy cams would be kool hehe

Friendly discussion is one thing. :)

Excited drivel is another.

Search "electric supercharger" and you will see that these things are ALL a useless piece of s h i t e.

How many useful products are there? Lots.

How many are there to avoid? Lots.

For more power, you need to improve the Volumetric Efficiency of your engine. In other words, more air through the engine.

Save an extra 3k and get a Sprintex supercharger. Designed for a stock car, 1 year warranty , 1-2 days to install.

Or, for NA, work on the Cylinder Heads.i.e. Port and polish, cams. Then intake and exhaust mods to take advantage of the Headwork.

Very rough calculations--

Without removing engine

Port and polish heads heads $600-1,300
Lash adjusters $130
3 angle valve job $120
Cams and Cam gears (RPW) $1375
Head Gaskets $180
Seals and Labour ???

Remove engine

Pistons $400
Resize conrods +ARP Bolts $400
Rebore $250
Balance engine $400
Greddy Emanage and tune $1000
Seals and Labour ???

Extras

Billet Flywheel $600
Extractors and muffler $800
Clutch $600 + Labour

thanks for that info- it just fascinates me why, when im not mechanically minded therefore would have to pay for a total install- people take the extractor, cai etc etc route -panel filters and so on or escalate up to turbo from the start- polishing intakes and buying dremel
look alike tools- adding nos sytems and so on all very different approaches - buying components from bunnings? the search feature doesnt discriminate it floods you with information, from booya's turbo to black beards install......... and after reading hours and hours and hours finally I asked for opinions about your favourite mods- the info is great- so what have you got? and what do you stand by? read my original questions please before commenting
