depends on how knowledged u are.. i think they're like $150 or something for the part. But its basically:
take tyre off, take brake caliper clip off strut.
undo the tie rod end
undo the 2 strut bolts
undo the hub nut.
lever d/shaft out
something like that..

Don't do CV's yourself... its a prick of a job and what grease monkeys are for.
You should be able to get away with it changed out for $150 dollars.

cv joint is the part inside the rubber boot which is packed with grease, probably not good to keep driving if it is already pissin out grease. The reason why is if its not too far gone, you can get away with just replacing the boot. If its just the boot, then it will be cheaper than the whole joint itself naturally. The joint will be gone if it makes any clicking noises when turning at all, which in that case, drive on and get it done soon.

Sounds like its just a split boot... if so easy job.. should take more than an hour :)
mind you thats if you have the air tool to stretch the boot over the shaft.. which i have :) $500 tool :O if you don't then its a horrid job...
wait... what you mean linked to the tierod? she CV joint shouldn't touch the tie rod..
CV joint is drive shaft...
Tie rod is steering...
which one you talking about?

So am i right in saying that a cracked boot will cause a stuffed cv joint? And that if caught early enough the cv joint won't have any problems?

It is far from an easy, hour long job.
Don't do it yourself, there is nothing rewarding at all about doing a ****ty pita job which doesn't teach you a thing.

Yes a cracked boot will eventually lead to a stuffed cv as the grease will come out and water etc go in. If its just a cracked boot, fixing it (changing boot and repacking grease can save you damaging an otherwise perfectly good cv)

I'm a bit lost with the description of which boot is stuffed.
Is it on the drive shaft to the tranny, or on rod for the Power steering Rack?
And is it oil or grease coming out?
If oil,
What colour is the oil coming out cause black oil isn't good from anywhere. (Unless it's old engine oil.lol )
EDIT: Sorry just saw you replacing the CV.
NEVER MIND LOL
