went to get a puncture fixed today and thought id do a balance on the tire which i replaced it with cause it sounded like it wasnt balanced properly.. it only really starts shaking the steering wheel past 120kmph and makes this noise which increases in speed as i speed up. anyway, the guy at the tire shop said that when that happens 9 out of 10 times its the bearing. now, if it is the bearing, how dangerous is it for me to go for a planned trip to mornington tomorrow? which is like 80ks from my house. how easy is it to fix/replace and how much will this set me back whether im getting it fixed elsewhere or fixing it on my own if possible. any tips to make sure that it is the bearing? or tips on how to get one fixed/replaced? help is much appreciated
this is a 2.6 tr btw
thanks
Alex

left cv joint is new with new shafts, fitted less than 3 months ago.. may be the transmission as i have to take it back to the guy who fitted my partially rebuilt one, as its been leaking oil and not changing gears as smoothly as it should be, i have a 6 months warranty on it and only had it done about 3 months ago. for roadnoise it was making evenly spaced faint noises, nothing that sounds like grinding, thats why i thought it may be the tire out of balance as ive had the car for over 2 years and never had to take it out before..
im just trying to sum up all the possibilities.
btw i did have my car to 170 in the middle of the night down the same piece of freeway the night before i got the puncture, and didnt have any noise, thats why i thought that it might be the balance issue, that noise only appeared after the spare tire was fitted

If it's only shaking and causing issues at speeds over 120kmph then here's a suggestion:
SLOW DOWN!

I find its easier to go the the wreckers and get an entire wheel hub, costs ~$65
Just check the bearing on it first, then yank the old hub off and whack the new one in and youre golden.
Be careful of the ball joints though.
