Hi my TR magna was running pretty damn well, but now every now and then when the revs are high or its under a bit of load, the engine is missfiring randomly. It never happens in first gear though. Any Ideas???

Probably the usual suspects....plugs, leads, rotor arm or dizzie cap...:D

theres a few screws holding the cover of your dizzy cap on, take that off and have a look under there while ya at it.
you can do plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor for about $130

Went through this recently( 2.6 TS magna). Changed leads, plugs, dizzy. Each thing helped but did not resolve the issue. In the end it was the ignition coil. Changed coil no problems since.
My car started the problem long ago, after high revs motor would miss fire and would take about 3-5 minutes to settle down

Seriously all plugs on TR/TS are simple.
Do a little check, spend some extra cash and drive free of hassles for 80,000kms at least, this how I did it.
1. Go to Supercheap on sale day ... this weekend I think and buy 6 irridium plugs equivalent to those standard ones $80 - $100. Buy Bosch leads with 5 years 100k warranty $52
2. Go to Repco get cap and rotor $60 + $18
Problem fixed.
I learned with miss fires in TS its 90% the cap. A good test is too take the cap off overnight, turn it upside down and fill with "milk" not water and wait till morning, bet the level is lower (and a puddle). If its not, it can still be the cap.
Hope this helps

lol lol lol way to prove your right even if you may be wrong. But yeah my uncles did the missfiring thing and it was the plugs. Does it blow heaps of smoke when you rev it hard?

One thing I keep saying in relation to these ignition issues that noone suggests is to make sure that the gapping is correct for the spark plugs too. It's not unusual for a plug thats "suited" for a motor to be incorrectly gapped. So check that too.

You can also check your fuel filter. I had a similar problem where the engine would cut out at 4,000rpm... was draining the end of the tank and I guess some crap got through. Swap it out and voila it worked :D

my GF's old lancer did the same thing under load except it all went to **** pretty fast. we found it was an arcing lead. we had just replaced the dizzy and the plugs about 2 hours before hand. check all those bits and as said before...make sure you check the gap in the plug.

Yeah I recently had the exact same problem with my KS 'Rada 3.0L. It was the plugs, got some Bosch plugs discounted from Burson's. Front plugs are easy to replace, but I must say the rear ones are a little awkward. But all good at the end of the day.:D
If that doesn't work you could also check your distributor cap/rotor.

thanks, about the ignition coil. cos i've already replaced leads, plugs and dizzy cap. Rotor button looks fine. How much is a new ignition coil????
i dont think theres a problem with the gap, V6 plugs are sposed to be pre-gapped. (i checked em anyway and they are like they should be).

I know they're supposed to be pre gapped...but sometimes they're not exactly right. This is the issue I had...it's not hard to take em out and check them...It's good to see you checked anyway :)
