May be a useless/well known point but I was pretty happy when I beat my mates 3.5 TJ with my 3.0 TF. Though we did only raced up to the speed limit 110ks. We were neck and neck up until around 75-80kphs when i stated to pull away.

Neither car has any performance mods although mine has been converted to manual. I was sure with the added torq of the 3.5 and a tiptronic gearbox would make him a hands down winner. I have a suspicion it may have has something to do with driver skill, but who knows.

I also drive my parents commonwealth edition 3.5 manual magna every now and then and it leaves me feeling envious every time :) Wondering if anyone else has a take on the situation, not keen for a rematch anytime soon though lol

You were manual, he was auto, case closed. The shorter ratios of the manual means you'll pull away better.
