Hi guys,
I have recently purchased an iRiver mp3 player and was wondering if it was possible to hook it up to the standard audio unit in the TL Magna.
Are there any plugs at the back of the audio unit that I could plug the MP3 player into?

Thanks in anticipation

I'm assuming the TL headdeck is the same as my TJII, and if that's the case then no, there is no input unfortunately. What you'll have to do is get an fm modulator, sound won't be terrific, but it does the job.

yeah the decks in the TL's are the same as the TJ's
if you want your mp3 player to work on this headunit your gonna need a FM transmitter
if you wanted to upgrade your deck i dont think that the irivers have any docking stations like the ipods do
check out the iriver website and see what they have
i've got an iriver to and wanted to hook it up to my deck but couldnt find anything like what the ipods got, but i went on the iriver website and found they have an FM transmitter designed for the irivers that plug into the ciggy lighter

Are the TL/TJ decks designed to drive a CD stacker?

... if yes, anybody's engineered a Line In via CD stacker plug?

another type of fm modulator is the kind that plugs into your arial in, in the back of the head unit, then you plug your arial into the back of this, it means way better sound.

i dont think any of the magnas deck have a plug for cd stackers, but i may be wrong
maybe try the decks out of the veradas or did they come with the decks with in-built cd changers?

My TJII deck doesn't have a cd stacker input for it. Must have been a special head deck for the veradas/upper class magnas.
The only other way would be to get a new head unit that had RCA input or cd player input, then just plugging the iriver into that via the headphone socket. FM modulater will be a much cheaper option though.

Veradas came with inbuilt 6 stackers, still no inputs. I would change the deck myself. Or get an inline fm modulator.

My TE deck (radio cassette) had a 3.5mm input that i could use to plug in CD\MP3\MD etc. and play it through that. I used to plug my discman in via a 3.5mm male to male cable before I got my headunit.

However, the CD player models that came with later Magnas didn't have that feature I don't think.

Thanks to all for their comments.
My housemate's Mazda6 has an auxiliary input at the rear of the headunit which you can use when you buy an MP3 adapter. It just plugs straight in the back of the headunit - very easy and not too $$$.
Thanks again.

What about the head unit for the TW Magna? Been thinking about swapping out the head unit, because all of my FM transmitters are screwed. But if I don't have to, I won't. Too afraid to pull my car apart unless I know I'll find goodies :p

Ok....try this.....or look for page 18 in the Supercheap catelogue.....I haven't seen it close up so I can't really vouch for it but it looks like the business for hooking up an Ipod etc especially since it looks to fit in the spare din bay.

Ah ok.. here's a larger version from their .pdf file :p
It's just a drawer to sit an mp3 player, or discman or something similar. You still need RCA inputs on the head unit. That doesn't answer much about the stock units.

Are you sure the TJ head deck is the same as the TL?

Anyone got a pick of the TJ exec deck, I reckon its not the same.

maybe buy a cheap amplifier, hook up the iriver to the amp, and the amp directly to the speakers..

Just anwsering my own question :)

This is a TJ head unit (Eurovox)

The TL ES gets the clarion deck stock, so its not the same.

I could go out to the garage and take a pick of the TL head unit, but its cold and I'm not going outside till tomorrow :)

The TJ verada i pulled my leather from actually came with the 6 cd stacker under the front passenger seat, i actually have the cd stacker so i'll open it up and see if i can manufacture a plug for it, i'll go back and wip out the cable from it, I'v done it with my pioneer system aswel (pioneer you can purchase a cable for it but the eurovox one you cant i don't think)

My TJ stock FM/CD player has an auxillary input. Same as in the above photo. All you need is a connecting cable with a stereo jack to go into the CD unit. I don't know what output your mp3 player has though for that end of the cable. This is a cheap and easy option.

My iRiver (I have the H340) has Headphone Out, Line In, Line Out --
Although the Line Out has the same amplification as the Headphone Out port?!
Weirdness

Use the line-out. It is much preferable to Headphones-out. Only use the headphones-out if there is nothing else.
Best of luck
