I've got a KJ Verada which has a single DIN radio/cassette deck with a single DIN in dash 4 stack CD player below it (1st pic).
I want to replace all of this with a double DIN Mitsubishi Premium Audio System (2nd pic).

Was the Mitsubishi Premium Audio introduced in the TL/KL Magna/Verada range?
Is it a plug n play swapover or more complicated than this?
Is it even possible to do this swapover?
Do the Mitsubishi Premium Audio head unit LCD display and buttons light up in a whitish/pale blue colour?

Doubt the plugs would be the same.. But you would be able to cut the wires and join them up to the right ones on the new deck.

if you search for the wiring diagrams on the forums, if these decks are on here, that would help you.

i doubt it would be a straight swap over, but if you can get the wiring diagram it would be the same as installing an aftermarket headunit..

any reason why you want that one? any massive upgrades from the current unit?

I've gone exactly what you want to do. Its a straight swap. Moved from a stock TJ II crap single CD, to a KJ verada unit like you have. That was a big improvement. Then I moved to a KL verada headunit. Fits in easily, have you seen the instructions on how to do it? They're in the 3rd gen FAQ. If you follow them, you'll be fine. The bottons do light up a pale blue colour (same as the ODO in a TJ II >)
The bass was much better in the newer unit, but there is no line in for an ipod (used a tape adapter before). I think its worth the swap.

why would you want to replace the one you have/had (if you havent done it already) with the premium audio system? how much more powerful is it really?

The KL Premium Audio head unit was more powerful than the standard KJ head unit. Enough that the speakers actually sounded better just by replacing the head unit.
