I seem to have developed a serious suspension problem on the way to work today. My rear left sespension has been making a slight creak every now and then around corners but now its developed into something bigger. I was driving along (in a strait line) and there was this MASSIVE bang from the back left of the car. Sounded like I hit something. I pulled over and inspected the back and there is no sign of visible breakage. I kept going and it happened again, and again, then I got 3 bangs in a row and a lot of creaking. Then a squeek developed. I got to work and looked again but there is still nothing visible wrong. Any one got any idea of what that is and if its immediately dangerous? There is one bolt missing on that wheel but the tyre mechanic looked over it and reckoned that it wouldnt be a big problem because its only one. Maybe he was wrong and something is more broken now. The creak around corners has been happening since before the bolt was gone. I dont feel much when the bangs happen other than i very slight virbation.

has the car been lowered or suspension touched recently? Could be that the spring has moved slightly and isn't in line with the strut where it should be.
I had a bolt missing on my front wheel and that caused a knocking sound, i'd be getting it fixed asap.

I sat on my boot but it doesnt really creak. It only used to happen going around corners. Doesnt seem to do it when i sit on it. Hasnt been lowered or changed.
Anyone know where Manual is? He offered to lower my car pretty cheap at a cruise, might just get that done and replace the shocks.

it sounds like ur shocks but u don't really know for sure, maybe take off ur wheel and make sure everything is sitting where it should be sitting, then ring a mechanic ask for his opinion. Or
Limp ur car to a mechanic and just ask if theya re busy to have a look they shouldn't charge u for looking

All the mountings look fine. I dont think anything is gonna break. It sounds as if the shock is siezing and then suddenly giving with a loud bang. The wheel started to squeek a bit too. I might just get the lowering/strut done that way its all replaced. Need it done today or tomorrow though...

WA suspensions is in Osy Park, may be worth giving them a call or dropping the car by and letting them give it a quick once over.

Sounds stupid but completely empty your boot of all articles and see if it's still happening.

Where would I get new shocks if I wanted to lower about 1 inch. Which are good to get? Also need a strut brace. Might get it checked at wa suspensions.

If it only happens in corners, it seems some of the suspension arm bolts might be loose and gives in under load? Do u have stabiliser? It might be moving too. Lift up the rear and check for any movements at any bolt area. If they move, u should see scratches at around that area. But yeah, stuff like this is very difficult to assess over reading it. Good luck.

Oh - it doesn't happen when u r cornering near a pub on Sat night....????? It's called hit and run.......:D

Ok checked the car with wasuspension. The loose bolt from the wheel had gone into the brake housing and was jamming. Im lucky the wheel didnt lock and spin the car. The shocks are way over due for replacement (look like originals) so they getting done too. KYB i think the guy said. $1295 to have all 4 purchased/fitted and a front strut brace purchasd/installed.

Yeh $1290 Gets 4 KYB shocks and springs (with some sort of auto speed adjusting function thingy) and a front strut brace + all installation/realignment. Is it a bit overpriced?

Should be more like $1000 or so I think. Going by RPW prices, shocks, springs and strutbrace comes to: $891. It should only take an hour or so to install.

I got my KYB's for $360 - Set of 4 (Shop around R&E auto parts are cheap for KYB's)

kings/lovells Springs $220 - Set of 4 (Fitting No more than $150. IMHO.)

In Melbourne, Suspension City will do it for $120, So other will too.

Front Strut brace $170 - Takes 5 mins to install

Shoot for these prices and you'll doing well.

Edit: These are 3rd gen prices....
