My Ralliart/AWD brake upgrade is complete. The front brakes I did a couple of weeks ago but TZABOY released his 320mm upgrade at the same time and took the wind from my upgrade sail.lol lol

Not to worry, I'm very happy with my 294mm front rotors.:D

The Rear Upgrade was almost as easy as doing the front brakes although I needed to readjust the handbrake and bed in the new drums and modify the dust shield.

All the preliminary stuff about jacking up vehicle etc.. I wont bore you with....

Step 1 was to spray everything with brake cleaner and remove the old caliper and hang it out of the way.

Step 2 was to remove the the old rotor. Using the two little thread holes on the hub and some appropriate bolts, I managed to pry the rusty rotor off the hub.

Step 3 required me to remove a small piece of the dust shield to allow for the new offset of the caliper bracket. (See Picture) The finish wasn't great due to my inadequate tin snips (and eventual blister on my hand) but a quick file took off all the sharp edges.

Step 4 was to Put the new rotor on (Post cleaning) and bolt up the new caliper using the 3.7mm spacers, new bolts, loctite and hook up the new calipers brake line.

Step 5 a brake bleed and handbrake adjustment and on to the other side.

Not the dramatic improvement in braking compared to the front upgrade but certainly a subtle improvement is noticable. Braking feels balanced and confident. Well worth the effort.

Thats awesome Mark!!!! Well done for making it happen!

I'm gonna have to sit down this weekend and go thru all your posts to itemise all the stuff required, and work out how soon I can get it done.

At this stage, I'm very keen to follow Jase's footsteps and get the big front brake upgrade, but I don't want to leave the rears untouched. If nothing else - I want to upgrade them just for looks lol

Expect to get a few PM's from me when I'm trying to work thru it.

*edit* - oh BTW, did you investigate the legalities of using that particular type of spacer over something like what JasonsVRX used?? Everytime I've spoken to workshops about upgrading the rear brakes of my car, the get very nervous when I start mentioning using spacers.

It's probably somewhere in the grey area and technically requires an engineering certificate. But It doesn't breach the no wheel spacers rule and it does not breach the following statement; ..."However, re-drilling, grinding or other modifications to disc brake calipers, disks, hubs, drums, axle flanges, steering or suspension components to facilitate the brake conversion or the fitting of replacement wheels are not permitted.".....

The only thing pruned was the dust shield. Everything else has not been modified.

All replacement bolts were 10,9 grade bolts and spacers were cnc machined.

A PBR big brake upgrade for an AUII falcon uses a similar style spacer to facilitate caliper alignment as do many other big brake upgrades. So at the end of the day :doubt: :doubt: :doubt:

Fair enough, I'm not afraid of getting stuff passed by engineers (unless you need a different mod plate for each one, in which case - my car could end up plastered with mod plates lol ), as it's only about $110 for a engineers inspection & cert. here in Qld.

My rotor spacers were engineer approved here in SA. If you take my rear wheel off, you wouldnt even know the rotor was spaced out 3.7mm. You have to remove the actual rotor to see it.

One thing i did do is trim the heat shield right back to allow additional airflow to the rotor for track work, there was no engineering issue with doing that either.

Blackbeard if ya want any details of my setup, feel free to PM me any questions.:)

Jason: Are you able to produce more of those spacers? I'd be happy to pay for some...

Sorry about that dude, as long as magna modifications are the winner on the day :D
