hey guys (and girls tho i don't think there's many come in here)

its possibly upgrade time (love tax cheques)

i currently have a 15" pioneer running off bridged rear channels of a jaycar 4x130 amp... its time for 2x12" to go in.

i need REAL input into this.... i don't wanna just hear Kenwood and sony are crap don't get them... if ur posting i want personal experiences and genuine ideas.

budget is approx $2000

atm i'm looking at:

2x DD2512 running off DDM2

Now for background...

- already have plenty of power supply running to boot (picked up some 0awg cheap when first doing install.
- the front channels on the jaycar amp are running a set of Jaycar Kevlar Splits.
- i want to spend the money in the boot... i AM hapy with the splits i have for now and i'm NOT happy with the way the 15 is mounted and a need 2 subs for the install i want.

- i listen to a bit of everything, but mostly Punk/hardcore/emo and heavy metal (Story of the Year, Funeral for a Friend, Thursday, The Used, etc and Sevendust, Slipknot, Disturbed) except when the gf is in the car then i can't get her to take the stupid *$%#ing Pink cd out, i swear i'm gonna break it!!! /rant
- i want BIG bass... but i also need to have control with the fast kicks with the hardcore music. i was thinking of porting the DD's because thats what they like. but any suggestions on sealed subs that can punch out alot of noise?

What other suggestions do ppl have? i'm not stuck on certain brands... i've just used DD subs be4 and loved them.

well i'll leave it at that for now.. anything else u's wanna know to help... just ask...

Cheers guys

Tim

there is a brand called celestra, they make an amp called the DA6K, am looking to get one of these babies myself. Im just trying to see if i can get it for cheaper that $2000, it runs at 3000Wrms @ 2Ohm, 6000Wrms @ 1Ohm . Its also strappable to 12000Wrms. If you saw the internals of this amp you would cream your pants. other amps you should look into are Ground Zero. Your DDs are good though i think you should stick with them.

Also most subs in the same category as teh DD2512s have a High Qts so they are better suited to a ported box. id stick with a ported box and just get you port yuning right.

I have a DD2515. It is loud, however rather laggy. It's in a 3.4cu ft ported box tuned to about 40Hz....powered off a Phoenix Gold QX900.d amp producing about 1.2kwrms or so. Its not exactly the best system to be listening to punk/rock/emo music with. Its overpowering.

Honestly, there is really no need for 2 subs unless u like the look of them. You are better off spending the extra coupla hundred dollars on a better sub or a more powerful amp. If u can afford it get the DD3512. Loud yet it still has good SQ characteristics, which is what you will need for ur genre of music.

Get a DD Z1 :P Tru tech sledge hammer etc etc...Definately try CAA for some gear. Have u made ur own ported boxes before? You will need to check the response of the sub box and the sub especially if u are going to use a ported box, otherwise it will be too laggy for ur musical needs.

i was thinking about the single DD3512 or an IDMAX12... but i was hoping to keep the use of the ski port and have it look symetrical... i guess there isn't really gonna be any room in the boot neway

i've built a few ported and sealed boxes be4...

maybe back to thinking about possible single 12's....... damn u ppl and ur logic :P

another suggestion is RE xxx. Honestly though, what do u need or ski port for? its stupidly small anyways :P Could be a good place to show off a carputer or something...

I would also look at Atomic subs for BIG bass.

If you want something nasty that sounds good why not try the Hertz HXS300's. The go for around $450 and are rated at 900WRMS. They take a tiny ported box but get loud very easily. Efficiency of 100db...

Or lastly why not try the Crossfire XT? The 12inch subs magnet is 11inches :D Need I say more?

ive been through an ID MAX 12, Lanzar optidrive 12, RE SX 15, few pioneers, and a pile of other subs.. and my latest JL 10W6 is by far my favourite sub yet. it is incredibly punchy, clear, and smooth. leaves the ID MAX for dead.

from what youve said you listen to, i'd go 2 10's over 2 12's any day.. especially the W6's, they are just so damn good.
far from quiet subs either, like i expected. just did a 139.4 on AC with the single 10", in a 0.75cuft net sq box tuned to 38hz, burped at 43hz.

for a single 10" that manages to lift the windscreen wipers, and sound great doing it, i wouldnt hesitate to recommend 2 of them.

as for DD, im not the biggest fan.. for SPL, for sure, but SQ, they just arent awesome. going off the experiences ive had with 2512's, 3512's, 3515's, 9512's, 9515's, and 9917's.

also as for amperage, 2 D4 10" W6's would work a treat off a single Response 800W mono, and if youve got the nudget, the 1500W mono would be even better :)

Yeh consider one better sub over 2 lesser subs... Get the sound you want, then if you want it to go louder use more subs and more power

Symmetry is always good if thats what you're after. Otherwise just get a bit more creative with the install it can still look good and be functional with 1 12"

re xxx
Adhire Brahma
Earthquake Magma
idmax
IDQ
Phoenix Gold XMAX
DD 3512d
Diamond TDX

Depends what you are after. Ported boxes wont go as low as sealed generally. Subs like PG XMAX, ID Max etc are designed for small sealed boxes and go very low eg 20-30 hz

Most DD subs are designed for output and go great but wont play below their tuning frequency very well. So it depends what sound you want.

Peace

I think just about anything will get loud in the write box and some power. I like the sound of the Boston G5, plays kinda low for a sealed box, ported box makes it a bit more boomy.

I think DD will be perfect for him, big loud mud bass :bowrofl:

ok guys... been looking and thinking... and ur right... the single is the way to go.

i've been looking into the specs on those mentioned and suitable amps for them and have made a bit of a short list... its been heavily culled with thoughts of "dear god... i seriously can't justify spend that much money"

Option 1: DD3512 + DDM2 = $1928rrp

Option 2: IDMAX12v.3 + DDM1a = $1678rrp

Option 3: RE SX12 + DDM1a = $1458rrp

Option 4: IDMAX12v.3 + Schneider SPX-6000A = $1698rrp

Option 5: RE SX12 + Schneider SPX-6000A = $1478rrp

Option 6: IDMAX12v.3 + Jaycar AA0429 (1500wrms) = $1598rrp

Option 7: RE SX12 + Jaycar AA0429 (1500wrms) = $1378rrp

I'm leaning towards option 2 or 3. option 1 is really at the limit of justafiable and only just scraped thru.

i guess i'm sort of pushing this 2wards tim and marty, if he see's it, the guys that have had experience with these subs first hand... what sort of reputation does the RE SX12 have (is it like the XXX)??? is the IDMAX worth the extra money over the RE SX12?
