Hey all
My car is 2001 TJ VRX LE
Q1: Is my car's ignition key slot suppose to light up?
Where can i get a MUT-II for 3rd Gen?
How much would it cost

2003 Sports and VRXs do not have an ignition key barrel light either.
I wouldnt bother getting a MUT-II, they would be over the $1k mark. There are other third party diagnostic systems that could emmulate MUT-II software but they too would be over the 1k mark.
If you have a diagnostic code you want to look up you can do it manually by earthing one of the plugs on the diagnostics pin under the dash. This will cause one of the engine/oil etc lights to flash a diagnostic code.

what im thinking you could do is.
get some of that wire neon stuff the wrap it around the ignition barrel and hook it up to your interior light

Earlier Veradas, mine doesnt have it.
Ive spoke to mitsu about this countless times, and TJ onwards dont have the barrel light (which pisses me off no end), the verada's do.
Mitsu said that I cant replace the barrel with a lighted one because it comes with a wire that is coded into your key/emobilizer.

that's bullsh!t mate, the non illumated key antennas have a hole there for a socket with a globe.. no such thing as a " coded " wire etc...
if people want to, get a globe with a socket to fit, and wire it into the interior light circuit, and it will be illuminated!

I had this light but when i did my manual conversion i changed the ecu and everything. So all the locks had to be changed to and the easiest way was to pull out the whole steering wheel/colomn and ignition barrel so i dont have a light any more:cry:
So is it easier to put another one in? I have a wiring loom for it.

pardon the ignorance, but is it worth all that effort to have a key barrel light? Seems like a lot of effort for something you dont really need. Perhaps the money and effort would be better spent retro fitting a commodore centre and map light combo in where the cheap mits central lamp is. You could potentially have 4 map lights.
The difinitive answer, I have got.. you CAN get it, BUT (and there is a big but) you need to change over the whole lock assy to a light type lock, ive just got quoted $300 fitted to get this done from mitsu.

Im half way through doing mine but havent had the car for 6 weeks to finish it..:P
I'm going to do mine, I've found the hole have the light to go in it, and that's as far as I got (all I have to do is find where I put the light now and get off my bum and fit it)
and no I'm not putting a light in my bum hole

hrrm is it that hard to find?
I can find it with my eyes closed.

you could always just shoot a small led at it, if you dont want to do the handyman work u can even get the small barrel leds on a swivel mount from autobarn.
Well I now have an illuminated hole, I decided to find my globe an do the keyhole ignition mod, after spending about an hour reading the circuit diagram, there is no wiring in place for the ignition globe, so I got creative and all is good.
IF you want to do this mod it's easy, you need a globe, wire and 2 wire splice conectors
on the right side inside of the car above the fuse's is a Junction block, the fuse's are on this block.
on the top right is a plug with 2 wires a red and a red with white stripe, these go to the cabin lights.
splice one wire to each of these wires and put the globe in the hole.
when you unlock the car the light comes on, it works no matter what position the cabin light switch is in, it will go off when you either start the car or wait till the cabin lights go off.

Well this is a thread mine from the Jungle.. Im so proud of myself.. Its been 6 years in the making and i finally completed this Mod..:) Got the Holder and wiring in 2006 and havent done anything till tonite. I got a little motivated and dragged myself outside in the cold and made myself useful..:) Best Mod Ever..
Well done, at least you did it, I've changed mine since I did it, I replaced the whole dash loom with the loom from a Verada, well all the wiring is Verada from the dash to the headlights. I've changed a lot in the Magna since 2006

Thanks to Dr EGO, I now have a globe and socket ready to hook up to my key barrel, but seems that my TH doesn't have the plug hidden away. :( Can anyone confirm if the TH does or doesn't have this plug??
Looking at the wiring diagram in the workshop manual, plug B-21 is needed. The only one I have is B-69 which is a 5 pin plug labled "Key Sensing SW". This is what I think you saw Dr EGO when you had a look for me.
Guess I'm going to have to get creative. I might just wire up as per the diagram and hook in to plug B-121 pin 20 and B-78 pin 7 if I'm reading correctly.

No, you don't have the plug. But yes you are correct in using that pin. Many people cheat and just latch onto the door wire,
But connecting to constant power and sending the earth of the globe to the BEM pin (you can cut a pin out of a plug at the wreckers and simply insert it into the BEM plug in your car) will make the light work with the correct timer.

Sweet. I'll look at doing this when I have some time spare and find some wire.
