Hey guys

I've dug up every thread i could find on this subject and I know a boot and lights swap from TF to TJ has been done before but i failed to find any information on how difficult the transition is.

I am particularly interested in whether people have done it themselves or sought proffesional help.

I'm also wondering what kind of wiring is involved with the boot and lights and wether or not it is possible to retain the ability to pop up the boot from a distance with the remote.

Also if I somehow missed the thread answering all these things then kindly point me in the right direction.

Cheers

tf and tj bootlids are 100% identical mechanically and electronically... u simply unplug the electronics in the boot and plug in the tj boot. everything is retained

Interesting, would you mind sharing the details, challenges etc. of the swap?

I did a TF to KJ boot/light swap on the weekend.. all up 2 hours with a mates help

The main lights are a straight swap. unplug the old and plug in the new.

Reversing lights are different on the KJ as they are on the boot. Just find the wire that doesn't plug into the new lights and splice it to the boot lights .. i used about 4-5 metres of wire for both sides.

I imagine the TJ would be the same or even easier than the KJ to do.

Just be careful with the lock. I found the TF locking mechanism to be different to the KJ - i will take the lock out later and get a locksmith to match it to my key.. one day

Just went from TE to TJ boot lid and Verada headlights.
Issues were- TJ tail light has different bayonet fitting and aftermarket lights dont include wiring, so had to source from wrecker.
-boot release on TE mechanical, so had to swap out electrical release
-barrel for lock had to be swapped as lock is different.
and the headlights are covered on the FAQ wiki, but basically the standard light splits the wires inside, but the verada headlight splits in the loom externally.

Cheers for the response guys, looks like it's gonna be a little more difficult than i thought, looks awsome though qwidgibo. TJ boot/lights with TF letterbox grill would be the hottest combo imo.

Just out of interest how much has everyone paid to get their new bootlids color matched?

Actually, I didn't. Paint codes have been bastardised all over my car over the years with different repairs, so just got the car detailed and you can't really notice. But definitely do it, it's well worth the effort.
