Well just got my transmission reconditioned, it was the original one that had been going for 290,000K's
I'm a student so I need the car too go to work and university, so I paid the amount for now till one day I can upgrade (everyone just says upgrade model, bit hard when you dont have enough too buy one, but can afford repairs)
Haven't got the car back yet, because the blokes fixing it said the Transmission was rebuilt fine, with overdrive a/t mode all repaired/replaced.
Recently I had a leak, a soft patch of water (not alot, but just enough too be slippery) near my drivers, were my feet rest... didnt think much of it because my coolant levels didnt change at all
God damn Heater core is gone, leaked onto the TCU? or ECU which ever one sits next too it
So hopefully get car back tommorow, now paying for trans and new comp..
He said he will disconnect the heatercore and drain as much fluid out as humanily possible so it dosent happen again, and can afford too get it replaced.
Let me just say I'm glad its summer
I did a search and this has happened too a few people, so if any water pops up near your feet or inside the car I suggest get it looked at asap before it damages the computer.
.... lets put the heatercore....right next to the comp......

nah that only cost me $1600.00 (best price I could find)
Good old front wheel drives
Other places quoted me $1800, 1950, 1850
His getting a new TCU or ECU for about $400-600
(But I know that there was a leak, just didnt know where from, and it got me nicely)

thats rather strange.. although, because of newer technology they might have them overstocked
whats the place that does it for $1600? let me know how it goes aka dodgy/good/fair/bad just your opinion on the job

no probs, the place is called L+R Automatics, located in the West Suburbs - Sunshine
I'll let you know
p.s My overdrive was completely hammered, just reved out, a/t mode was gone, 'top gear' was not working
hence the rebuild needed

You'll love the re-coed tranny.....been in a V6 with a rebuilt auto tranny and it was awesome, it just engaged gears so hard it was pretty nice...
For the money did you ever consider doing a manual conversion by any chance?
Mightaswell service ur car while ur at it so it feels like a new car

yeah getting that done after the trans is done, at a different place 'Cobra Motors' in Sunshine, awesome joint. You must know these places, its near 'mayday' auto parts
Nah manual aint an interest too me.....I'm too lazy to worry about gear changing lol
Bought a brand new heatercore for $155.00 should be here by tuesday next week, lucky its summer, wont worry about getting it replaced until end of year - they have too remove a huge amount of the dash too change it all, so it costs heaps in labour.

i dont think i'd drive an auto if you guys are close to the city. I hate driving mine in peak hour here and now i have a heavy duty clutch, which my knee isn't used to. I've only experienced traffic at... (ive forgotten my best mates town...) but it's over an hour out of the city and it's worse than brisbane

Is it a 4 or 6 cyl, either way I could get you a trans for about $250ish second hand with 30 day warranty...trans ecu I have them here as well cheap.
Pitty I am not back in Vic yet
What were the symptoms of the trans as it is so un usual for the trans and the tcu to go at once. If you only had one forward and reverse, your trans was fine and you have been stitched

Nah id rather get reconditioned then gambling with a 2nd hand one, its got a 2year warranty on this one anyway.
Whats located near the heatercore, the ECU or TCU??? one of them got wrecked cause my heatercore leaked onto it (Had wet patch near my feet/under chairs)
Not sure what they are doing, getting a new one or getting that one repaired (think its new because the water killed it)
The TCU/ECU only went because of the water, not from the trans
Symptoms of trans, screwed overdrive, screwed a/t mode (would rev out when selected)
No top gear, heavy clunking from Park to Reverse, small shudder in gear changes
He also said I burnt it out
Can expect much more from a 290K car, thats why I just went ahead and got it rebuilt

Yeah my heater core went at the start of last summer I think it was.
Got quoted 500 for labour and parts, so said **** it, brought a core from a radiator place for 110 bucks, and started pulling my dash out, about 3 weeks later it was all done :bowrofl:
Scary **** the magna dash, too many peices.
Oh well, it all went back in, works 100% again and with about 30 screws and peices left over lol
