It looks like you've just taken the snorkel off. You might see improvement when it's cold, but on a really hot day don't be surprised if you lose power.

He removed the snorkel, dont worry about losing power as the standard unit sucks hot air as well, I noticed a big improvement in power too, cheap mod for sure for the TR models.

True, but he'll get more of an improvement if he makes his own air dam at the front near the bumper or something and leading that up to the opening.

my mate has done it to his commo,a great way to **** up your engine,i suggest get a CAI
yeah it will make your car go faster, more air gettin in the engine, but wat bout all the crap like rocks etc may get sucked up in there ova timelol ,ive seen a car like yours with a pod filter thats your otha option:cool: .

Pods are a bad idea because of the MAF.

If you did your research you would have found there is a POD Filter which is ok to use on Magna's and will not disrupt the MAF. They are oval rather than round.
I'm not a fan of d/c stock snorkels, I figure the engineer who designed it must have made it atleast semi practicle. You can get K&N Panel filters to put in your stock air box for around the $100 mark.
Do some research.

You're not going to get a rock in your engine as the snorkel is removed before the filter.

I haven't had the snorkel on my TF for about 20,000k's now.. under certain conditions, I've had better fuel economy (as low as 7.1L/100km) and definitely increase in power under most conditions.. only once did I notice a drop in power and economy but I think it was 39°c that day.
Best thing is, it sounds tough as now with my straight thru lukey

At night you'd probably find an increase (minimal, but just maybe), but as soon as you get a hot day, it's all over.
I did the exact same thing that offtaptr has done and that's what i found happened.
*EDIT*
The best thing i've found you can do to a 3rd gen intake is remove the dust plate, and keep the stock snorkel.

Dust plate? whats that?

It's the plastic that goes accross the top of your grille. removing that the air goes straight up into your grille and then into your snorkel. To do it properly though i'd leave the dust plate on but cut out the part where the snorkel sits, that way you won't get as much dust into your air filter.

Thanks for that, I'll give that a shot later today.
