what oil do you use in yours and with a filter and oil change is 4.3ltrs right?

and 2nd how much fuel do you use in yours?

what mods can I do to get better fuel economy

the car is stock as it comes.

I use Shell Helix Plus. Yes oil fill is ~4.3L.

I get about 10-12L/100Km in the mrs' Auto doing lots of short trips.

As for fuel economy things worth replacing:

spark plugs/Leads/Dizzie Cap&rotor/Upgrade air Filter too K&N/O2 'Oxygen sensor' if old/ultrasonic clean injectos/fuel filter etc

Those things are cheaper, and a great way too start it.

how many k's has your car done? and are you the original owner?

I suggest looking at the above things if your car has done a fair few k's, or you dont know when any of the above things were done/changed last

Not that its completely relevant to your question, but...

I use Redline fully synth 15w oil, with a K&N filter... helps the old beast build up a bit more oil pressure.

And fuel i get roughly 400kms to 42L city/town driving, and 460kms+ to roughly 42L Highway. Not too shabby for an auto astron. lol

For better economy on a 3L, i'd definately have to say change the rear section (exhaust), thats if u dont mind a bit of extra noise. Next up is air filter to a high flow unit, and remove the stock intake snorkel... replace with cold air intake pipe if desired for better results.

Advancing ignition timing might change it a little for the better, but you'd also have to run a higher ron fuel (depending on deg of advance).

Changing to a 10w oil should also help with economy, slightly. As for plugs, get a new set and index them as best as possible. Not really classed as a mod, but inflate your tyres up to around the 34psi+ mark (depending on road/weather conditions) if youre running stock 15" wheels, and dump any unnecessary weight from the car.

And basically as Russian says, make sure your car is kept up to scratch maintenance wise...

Just out of curiosity, what kind of economy are you currently getting?

i use magnatec in mine. have done in all my cars. a mechanic friend of mine recommended it to me and says its one oil that actually does what it says it does on the bottle.

currently getting about 550 out of tank in mine at the moment. think it needs a bit pf a tickle as my old verada used to get heaps more than that.
