Bonnet scoop.. wtf for?

:\ Thats like saying, body kit, wtf for?, leather interior, wtf for?. I spose you can claim it might keep things cooler under the hood, but asthetically wise, i say its just another way to make the car look sportier.

i say it looks nice :D

Sorry, im into practicality..

Leather can be answered with its nice, comfortable and easy to clean.

Bodykit: While its great to make your car aesthetically pleasing (without going over the top) a bonnet scoop just screams rice.. Unless its specifically for something..

oh dear....

true, some are destined to watch and some are destined to own..... but then theres the third category - those that have absolutely NFI....

is the bonnet scoop functional? or is it just stuck on? cos if its just stuck on then you are:
a) ruining whatever little aerodynamics the car has
b) destroying the sexy lines of the TJ bonnet
c) hurting peoples eyes

yeah dont worry about the critism mate, some people just can't accept that people want to modify their car's how they want to. Mods don't have to be functional, who cares if someone calls your a ricer, meh, at the end of the day, its your car and you should be able to modify how you want to.

PS. Bain, havn't you realised that not everyone will put practical mods on their cars ? get over it , its makes you look like a snob.

Looking forward to seeing a bigger & brighter photo.

As for the scoop, as long as it's colour coded, fitted well and you like it - then that's all that matters.
As for the criticism, take it on the chin - many don't like my rear wing but I don't care, and a few more body mods are planned one day, some will like, some won't.

Proper pix or ban!

Not feeling the scoop, its my way of identifying them slow ass scoobies.. But considering it isnt a stick on; looks like your intake plen may indeed get some cooling. Seems he has some decent plans to the engine which people seem to of let slip.

I think some members need to look at the positive side on what they may dislike, ie effort involved.

i dont actually mind the scoop with the rest of the car. makes it look WRX'y to a degree, sorta like a family freindly wrx but on a different car wouldn't be too good and i'm not too sure how they would go with spinners but congrats on doin something different to the standard magna mould. i'm planing on doin a slim but long style vent on my car once i get the top mount and air channel sorted

Well i actually saw this car crusing a little while ago and i was stunned to see such a good looking magna, Bonnet scoop imo looks good and cause it aint no stick on it makes it worth while for the cold air factor, the more cold air you can get into the engine bay the better so i wouldnt call it ricey!!

We all have different opinions on rice and i dont think *REAL* bonnet scoops are ricey!!

anyways congrats on the orginal magna!!

Actually if it is a JN2 Bar then it should'nt be modded at all to fit a TJ.
If it is a JN Bar then it would be modded to fit a TJ.
I know as I modded a JN Bar for my TJ but have changed it now to a Sinex Bar as I found the JN Bar attracted to much Police attention.

i think i would like one, but mind would be small and right over the top of the air box.

as for people not liking it, doens't mater not their car, and as for a ricey mod if you want a vent thats the main point. so good work another different magna out there

I can accept that people may feel the same way about the looks of their car... and it's not hard to say you don't like it, pleasently. Word to Dee's mother.

Personally i'm not a fan of either, front bar is just a bit too thick for me and the scoop ruins the smooth lines of the bonnet, a for effort though man hope you're proud.

Not to deter you-However- Read Bricks thread on his install for the Zelios Bodykit and then consider this- I ordered the whole kit via direct deposit after a confirmation phone call to them
to assure me they had it in stock- After paying for the kit and not recieving a delivery I rang them. They explained- this front has Never been on a tj magna and was a prototype-
Very Rough and Unfinished. Well you could imagine my surprise- anyways stupid me said
"Ship it" The whole kit arrived in a ripped open box, the components were so rough and filled with air bubbles, the edges damaged and chipped- It was an abortion. I rang and was told
there was a considerable restocking fee, if I wanted to return it. I declined They did however say " could you forward us some pics so we can put it on the website". To which I replied" so other fellow magna owners can be duped- I think not. The front Bar was brace
with two length of timber under the top section either side of the centre- one section had fallen off- the whole Kit took 2 full weeks to fix and fit. It had to have steel reinforcement straps to the bront bar sections and then cross section supports- Any Normal Panel Beater
would freak at this, but Northern Customs- thank god - do custom Harley fabrications and
choppers etc, they blitzed it.

Buyer Beware- A polished website, is still only a shiny front- I read all I could on Zelios and
Carmate before comitting to buy so expected the worst, - I wasnt disappointed-
Having said this- I love the look, and the finished product is superb, but I wont be letting
Carmate trade of the additional cost and work done to finish their unfinished sub standard
Kit by using pics of the finished product .
PS- If your contemplating this on a verada- the rear reinforcement and bar have to be replaced with standard bar and reo or it will not fit.

Look I ain't taking sides here, but Bain, calling a bonnet scoop rice is like calling a rear wing rice. Who actually decides whether a modification is rice or not? There is no international conservatorium on rice burners, on what modification should be declared rice or not.

"Rice" was a stupid term from the start, and like metrosexual, the idiot who first coined the term should be shot.

If you like a bonnet scoop, then by all means have it. Whether it serves a purpose or not is irrelevant, if you like it there, then by all means have it. I happen to like it. If you don't like it, then don't, but don't try to justify attacking BEHR's choice, by classing it into some stupid sub-category of car modification. Whether BEHR started attacking you is indifferent, maybe he shouldn't have, but I know I would get just as personal if you spoke that way about my car, because it is each to their own, and I take pride in whatever work I do to my car, and therefore I have a personal affliction to the thoughts and feelings of others about my car.

Thanks for reading :D

I can understand putting vents in your bonnet to allow for heat disapation, or a scoop if its functional. At the moment all that scoop is doing is creating a pocket of hot air in the engine bay. (cold air through the grill and cold air through the top of the bonnet does not necessarily mean its going to make your whole engine bay cool.)

If it serves no other purpose than to 'look good' then its no better than one of those Hyundai Excel kits.

If BEHR's getting a SC kit, then good on him.. The only problem is the SC is in front of the driver, not in the middle of the car. Also, after seeing Tristians and Mic's sc'ers theres pretty much no room under the bonnet to run any CAI from that scoop to the SC'er.

The scoop doesnt line up with the flow of the TJ's bonnet, it may possibly look a little better on a TH bonnet as its flat..

And as you said, not everyone is going to like it so if you cant deal with the bad press then dont start a thread about it.

You might wanna add "IMO" after some of what you say Bain as it's not fact. I mean saying something like, "If it serves no other purpose than to 'look good' then its no better than one of those Hyundai Excel kits." That's just a personal opinion and you've made your point loud n clear. So why continue to banter in this thread? Why bring negative comments at all? They get frowned upon in other threads (I don't know why, I think constructive critisism is great)

If it serves no other purpose than to 'look good' then its no better than one of those Hyundai Excel kits.

:bowrofl:

In my honest opinion... I don't like it.

:D

I reckon the Cosworth style vents look better and more importantly, are actually functional.

Im sure i have never liked scoops, but your car Behr has changed my mind. The mean magna look is wicked and the kit and scoop suit eachother. In my opinion, the car flows, job well done.

They get frowned upon in other threads (I don't know why, I think constructive critisism is great)
IMHO, I agree with Bain. But opinions aside, here's two valid points that agree and disagree with this point.

Point 1 is it's his car so he can do as he pleases. That's unwritten - it's obvious.

Point 2 has two sides. Firstly the scoop does not suit the car, the aesthetically speaking, it's ugly. Secondly even though point 1 can apply to making a car look 'tougher', fitting something that makes it appear as though you have a top mount intercooler is nothing short of pretending aka rice.

As for airflow... pah... it will do poop.

Those squarish ones that people use in pairs on bonnets? You're kidding right? They're just as ugly. The only vent's that I've seen in the metal that actually suit the Magna are EVO ones and only on TE-TH bonnets at that. There's a reason for that too ;)

The rear wing I have seen on ebay starting at $400, I cant get another and have been told the centre pillar section is unavailable and bids start around 300 just for the pillar- for genuine. I paid 300 for mine, and before that 180 for my vrx rear wing. For that size wing
I suggest solid abs plastic, its easy to work with and prep and paint- an aftermarket copy
may not have solid support sections and shaving them to suit the boot contour may be impossible. But if I hear of any I will post a thread.

Haha yeah thats true. Although I think the cosworth style vents would suit the lines of a TJ bonnet... I'm very keen on seeing what Black Beard's car will look like.

But IMHO, no vents neccesary unless we're playing around with forced induction. It's hard to make them look good, and they draw attention.

I guess though by that school of thought, big wheels aren't neccesary, or loud exhausts...

No offence mate, but this is why I commented in the first place. Its all opinion, and what looks good or not is based on people's differing tastes. You can't put your opinions aside, then a paragraph later go on to say its ugly, can you? A tad contradictory  :P

No, it's hypocritical. I pointed out Bain's hypocriticalness (is that a word?) earlier and he deleted my post, so don't bother man.

Nope, it's not all opinion and it's not all contradictory. You've taken my comment out of context. The context is that the scoop does not fit with the styling of the car. Yes it's an ugly scoop anyway but regardless of whether a scoop is ugly or not, if it doesn't suit the car then it doesn't suit the car. It comes down to aesthetics, not opinions.

Again not trying to stir commotion, but whether the scoop flows with the car is a matter of opinion in itself. I back this up with some previous statements in this thread that point out they think it DOES flow. So aesthetically, its stilla matter of opinion, thats what I'm trying to get across. Take it or leave it, just making my thoughts known. :)

BEHR mate you must be loving all this, all over your car :P
