Noticed globs of grease or very thick oil on my drivers side mag today. Before I put my beer down and pull the wheel off - has anyone else had this drama?
Is it gunna be:
A) The tie rod boot/knuckle
B) The CV boot / joint giving up on me
C) Weeping brake piston(s)
D) Wheel bearing seals and bearing
E) Bird **** from a seagull that survived the Exxon Valdez
F) Other
  :coffee:  :(

i'm guessing maybe the CV boot has ripped and some grease has spat out..
But i really can't be sure!

I can't feel any tear etc in the cv boot. It's also odd that the gunk lands between the spokes and onto the outside of the mag. I had a wheel alignment a month or so ago and I have felt a grinding in the steering since
I reckon it'll be the bearing or tierod. Bearing because it'll be a pita job. Tierod cause it'll flog out my tires.

That's Spooky !!!
I jumped onto AMC tonight to ask the same question.
Did a quick search and came up with this thread.
So I'll piggy back off your question if ya don't mind EZ Boy.
I noticed some dark thick oil on the inside of my (driver's side front) rim spokes earlier in the week.
Wasn't sure if it was from my car or just something I'd flipped up off the road.
Washed the car and got rid of the oil (no damage or residue on the chrome).
But the oil is back so it's from my car :doubt:
Brake oil was slightly down in the Reservoir thingy (in the engine bay) but doesn't seem to have droped any since.

Degrease everything with a whole can of brake cleaner... when its clean you'll be able to spot where its leaking from easier.

Have a look at the rubber boot covering the steering arm/tie rod. Last time my KE got an alignment the gits doing it twisted the boot on the rod really badly so it ended up splitting and spilling residual oil.

It'll probably be the lower control arm ball joint.

my inner and outer cv boot went, as the tie rod end on the lower control arm ball joint, personally by the sound of it i would say it would be the outter cv boot, as that is the closest spinning part (centripital forces would throw it onto your rim) but the grinding :doubt: that sounds like a wheel bearing, i would get that checked out

;) "centrifugal" mate... lol.
Double check the clamps on the boots are tight...

I'm pretty sure it'd be the CV boot. Mine gave up a couple of times and that's exactly what happened. Can't really tell that the boot's had it unless you take the shaft out.

Got my car fixed yesterday :D
My greasy muck ended up being a CV Boot.
Repair cost (Tyre place): $95
Only now my brakes (or something squeek) and I think the same wheel.
It may be dirty brake discs/pads or maybe the opposite - super clean ones??? - something the place used to clean the parts up ?
I'll clean the rest of the grease muck off the rim, suspension stuff and BRAKES then see.
