View Full Version : Violent Kickdown in KE

For the last few days my KE has been really violent on the kickdown when stopping, the car will come to a stop, then jerk forward about 30cm and the revs will climb from ~800 up to ~1300.

I only changed the fluid and filter ~2000KM ago so that *shouldnt* be it, and fluid lever is OK, I checked a few times.

Doesnt do it ALL the time, but probably 6 out of 10 times it will do it.

Also, it first started doing it whilst I was towing a trailer (only a box trailer, with maybe 100Kg of load, so nothing too stressful on the gearbox) and has been doing it ever since.

Any Ideas?

EDIT: Shes a Verada, so shes Auto of course. 4spd.

Get you TPS adjusted as that plays a big part on the timing of the gear chages

This used to happen on my KE at low speed changing down into first as well. It was partially cured with a software update from Mitsu (that was a few years back so you probably already have it).
It coincided with my driving style when driving really hard and abrupt on/off throttle. Under gentle driving conditions I never had the same trouble so suggests TCU learning mode.

Suggest resetting the TCU as per other how to threads here.

Also check the idle speed servo (stepper motor)

unfortunately sounds like the internal clutch is sticking, happened on my TE http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25444

take it out on the road and quickly accelarate to 20ks, then brake hard and if the revs stay abt 1300, then drop to around 400, and then the carr will feel like its abt to stall and then the revs kick up again then its due for a tranny repalcement.

My 94 Verada does similar things.

It stopped doing it until i got my idle motor replaced and my base idle reset. Now it does it again! First time a repair actually made things worse!. I have been to so many people about this and NOTHING seems to work and nobody really cares. Im starting to GIVE UP! :bowrofl:
