Hey everyone , how are you all going ?

anyways, i recently bought an alpine 12inch Type-S sub off a mate, and was wondering, what amp is needed to power it ? Can i use a 4 channel amp to run it and my splits? Or is it a better idea to get a seperate amp for the sub, and then one for the speakers.

Keep in mind that i am not made of money, and the music i crank the most is Drum and bass, with the occasional hip-hop beat.

Also, for a temporary thing, would it sound weird with only the sub amped up ?

you can use a 4ch amp to power your sub and splits no problem
just bridge 2channels for the sub
and just run the rear speakers off the deck
shouldnt sound to bad
some people normally do this to save money on a system
can be done as temp until you have enough money to buy a mono block for the sub
but if you want a seperate amp for your sub then a mono block would be best suited but a 2ch amp can also be used

I know one shall not skimp on thy system, but its all i really want to spend on an amp.

maybe go into an audio shop and see what you can pick up for 300 bucks
should be able to get a decent amp for that price

*EDIT* i would go for a alpine amp but you might need to spend abit more money to get one
pioneer amps and clarion amps would be more in your price range

yeah i'v been to a couple of audio shops, but they all say the same BS about different products, so i don't know who is giving me advice, and who is trying to move old stock ! lol

cmon audiophiles ! I know your out there ! Gimme some amp names/specs/prices !

which audio shops did you go to?
alberts? westside car audio?
ill have alook around cause i got some price list around here somewhere

*EDIT* what type s you running? 4ohm or 2ohm? new ones or an old one?

i don't know what type of (type-s) sub it is, i got it off a mate in a box for $80, also got several meters of stupidly thick wire for free hehe.
It is pretty new though, my friend only sold it too me because he made some bad decisions and has to sell his car and all his audio....because you can't drive in jail !

The car audio shops i went to were car stereo city, and repco (bored on a saturday,just browsing for specs there lol), but i work in maddington (where u spotto'd me) so shops around there are easier for me.

if the face of it is shiney then its the newer ones
maybe try westside caraudio in cannington next to surround sound
they are having a sale so maybe check it out and see if you can pick up a bargain

have you tryed ebay or dont you trust buying online?
cause maybe check out these amps

installed one of these into my mates car and i have to say its a pretty good amp sounds better and louder than it did wired up to the alpine h/u

Also, i can't really be bothered with ebay, bidding, postage etc. but thanks for the links, it gives me more of an idea.

I would buy from a shop over ebay any day. Have seen and heard to many bad stories with camera's etc to ever trust the bay. :D

i picked up my H/U from ebay at 300 bucks off RRP and 200 less then JB was selling it for and i got no porbs.
