Hello all,
Just picked up a nice TR Elite, which has the factory alarm coupled with the central locking.
I'm hoping someone can help with a problem, in that the key is supposed to disarm the alarm when manually unlocking the doors or boot - this doesn't happen. It only disarms when the button on the key is pressed, and then not all the time. Then when the alarm goes off, cannot stop it with the key or the button. I have a Haynes manual, which is totally useless as it does not cover this area, nor do the wiring diagrams.
Any ideas greatly appreciated, - by my neighbours also!!!
Thanks in advance

Is it one of the original TR's that had an InfraRed remote as opposed to a radio controlled one?
If it is one that has infrared remote, you'll find the reciever on the drivers door handle just next to the key hole lock. (little black circle) What happens when you push the button holding it close to the reciever?

Thanks guys - yes it is the infra-red remote, works ok and has enough voltage at the battery. One thing I neglected to mention is that the central locking, when you attempt to use the key goes crackers. Rapidly cycles through lock/unlock, always finishes up locked.
Guess what I'm really after is to be able to just use the key and not the remote, according to the handbook that came with the car unlocking with the key should disarm the alarm also, both for the doors as well as the boot. Strange that the central locking works fine with the remote, but not with the key.

does it go crackers when you use the key on the passenger door as well? If yes, then the problem could be with the central locking relay. Check and clean the connector terminals on the Central Locking relay. (Pull off the kick panel to the right of the accelerator pedal. It's the small black box mounted under the fuse box.)
Maybe take a trip to a wreckers and a rip one off another TR just incase the one on your car has developed a fault.

Thanks Misterbishi - cleaned the connectors on the relay with some contact cleaner and all now appears fine with the central locking. Any idea where I can find a wiring diagram or similar to tell me where the alarm joins up to the circuit? That problem still exists - ie will not disarm with the key, only the remote.
Thanks again for your help

Someone has kindly made the service manuals available for download at the following url... http://www.thehammer.net/magna/
One of the pins off the relay should be a red/white wire. This is the wire which leads to the key locks. Test the relay operation by grounding this pin. When this pin on the relay is grounded, the doors should unlock (or it could be vice versa). If that works OK, you may have to crack open the doors to check the connector at the key lock end.
