I currently own a magna advance tf 1997 that has been overevving. It has an automatic gearbox. Also when the motor heats up water spits out from the overflow located at the top of the plastic bottle on the side of the engine bay. When i put it into drive it still overevvs what could be the problem. We recetly changed the water pump.

What do you mean exactly by overrevving? What are you doing when it happens? what revs is it going to?

over 2 on the tacho meter and goes to 1.5 when i put it into drive and it bumps into gear when i change.

if your idle is high..... change it.

I think it might be a deeper problem than that

not neccessarily, a high idle on an auto tranny is just like revving the car in neutral and dropping it into drive.... thats a similar effect of what a high idle would do?

thanks for that info but why is it losing water from the overflow as well when it heats up

Thought that might be it but thought i'd just clarify it.
The problem sounds like a pretty common fault which is in the ISC (idle speed controller). You'll most likely need a new one/reco.

If the overflow bottle is too full, the water is going to bubble and will come out.

Genuine probably something stupid, should be able to get the part from repco or if not a wreckers. When the ISC in my TR conked out, it was either $130 for the ISC or $90 change over for a whole new throttle body....
Also "Heath young" a member on here was selling a throttle body that had an ISC attached, might be worth sending him a pm to see if he still has it.

That doesn't explain why he's overheating and spitting water out of his overflow..or am I missing something?

First things first. Check your throttle cable for starters. Make sure its adjusted properly. Butterfly may be partially open. Secondly check all vacume hoses that they are secure and none are split. Also could be a manifold leak sucking air this will need to be checked as well. Re water spitting out. As mentioned previously check overflow bottle might be over full. Or Faulty radiator cap. Was the cooling system bled?? There may be air inside it. This will cause problems down the track if this is the case. Take radiator cap off. Let car idle with heater running as well till it gets to operating temp. Thermostat should open. It may spit out some water then settle. Top up as necessary it should stop spitting out water eventually. After all the above place radiator cap back on hopefully problem solved. If not you have other underlying issues eg faulty thermostat not opening completley or possible head gasket problems. This should keep you busy for a while hope the above helps if all esle fails take it back to the workshop who did the work for you. Good luck with it.

Well he didn't say it was overheating, just that when the car warms up the overflow bottle spits out water which could mean it's too full.

Am I missing something? What I read is that when he puts his foot down the engine revs freely before engaging the gear. If it were a manual I'd suggest a slipping clutch, but being an auto I wouldn't know where to start.

he said he is not doing anything, and it is idling when it happens. I bought a second hand ISC from the wreckers for quite a cheap price, so you should have no worries with it.

Try a different coolant, if your running water, its going to heat up a lot more and boil at a lower temperature, try a more concentrated coolant

Worst case scenario is blown head gasket etc etc, compression pressure is getting into the water jacket and pressuring out the coolant into the overflow.
Overflow bottle should be filled only to the 'max' mark, any more and it'll overflow & fix itself. If the level is 'max' when old and its still overflowing... something is pressuring the water out.

Overevving huh? Sounds like you need to take your foot off the pedal so hard son! lol
In all seriousness though, it probably is your ISC. You can adjust idle using the big screw loacted on the throttle body, screw it further in.
Try it, see if it works?
Good luck
However with your other problemm... no idea :(

You should also check your tranny fluid.
