I was thinking of buying these extractors http://www.rpw.com.au/shop/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=347&category_id=57&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=31 and installing them myself. Its my first mod for my 01 TJ does anyone know if these extractors wouldn't be suitable?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

I've got the first or second set of these extractors that came off the production line (not including the test versions), HPC coated too. They're a well designed header and I've had nothing but good remarks from any exhaust shop or mechanic that's touched my car, including the installers who said they fitted up perfectly with no clearance issues.

There are clearance issues on the 3L motor, but that shouldn't trouble you.

They have larger diameter primary tubes than the Pacemaker extractors which makes them better for mid-range grunt than top-end performance, and they should serve you better if you're going to make high performance mods down the line (like hot cams or supercharging) because they'll flow more air.

However, they're nearly twice the price of Pacemaker extractors and the jury is still out on whether they are that much better to warrant the extra dollars.

This juror said no :) Pacies were the best bang for buck. Very good quality as well.

There are only a few things from RPW that I will wholeheartedly recommend, and the extractors are one such product. The quality is very high, like Cthulhu - everyone who worked on my car when I had them fitted commented on the workmanship.

Having said that - pacemakers are probably better value for money.

yeah cant say i have driven a car with these but just by looking at them and comparing them to other brands its clear these are the best brand of extractors for our cars,

however, weather the extra price is justified is another thing,

like someone here said, if u want to do big mods afdterwards then these are for you fa shizzle!

Unless those "big mods" involve bolting 2 turbos off the engine  .

It was considered, but we decided the pipes didn't have thick enough walls to contain the heat (even with the HPC coating). Best case senario was that they would have cracked within 12 months.

At least I was able to get some money back for them from the sale.

There is an issue with fitment to 3.0l engines. The pipes will sit up against your starter motor and you'll probably need to but a dent in one of the pipes to make them fit.

As I work for MMAL I spoke to a number of engineers, and heeding there advice I fitted the HM ones to my AWD and couldn't be happier. There are no clearance issues, look factory, and actually made a difference. I actually gained some torque, and get better fuel economy. The car is much happier now on the freeway and around town. :D

I just ordered the rpw ones, I'm not getting the ceramic coating though bit to pricey. It's funny how much you can spend on a car and its hard to know where to draw the line. I was just quoted $1995 for a painted GSR body kit which I think looks amazingly better than my wifes holiday plans.
CAI $450 from rpw, straight through exhaust $450.00, dont even talk about brakes seems that $1200 might do the trick for the front 2. Interior, well I just bought a rally art steering wheel with airbag for $232.00 bargain though http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290038454031&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:AU:1 . Just bought glow in the dark dials $120, dont even talk about those $500 2D dash overlays in red carbon.
All thats left is a supercharger/divorce $7000 fuel pump $450, thank god my car has a half decent stereo, I can listen to it loudly while my wife wonders why we are living in the car.

But damn it would be worth it!!

Haha. Just one thing I picked up on in that, don't spend $450 on a CAI man. Do a search on the forum, you can make em yourself for cheaper.

You'll need that loud stereo to stop the shrill coming from your supercharger.....and wife
