hey all... ive got a coustic 481qe amplifier.. i havent used it in ages cause i didnt thiink it would be more powerful than my current amp... but i want it to just run one sub.. now it shows peak power at 2 ohms or something running at mono not stereo, how do i change it to that so i get peak power, thanks all...

Wire a 4ohm speaker with the positive terminal on one channel, and the negative terminal on the second channel (Bridging). This means each each channel will see half the impedance and extract more power than if you were running 4ohm on each channel (stereo). Whatever you do don't bridge the amp with a 2ohm speaker or it will overheat and die an early death.

good explanation! but if that wasn;t enough (theres a lot of people that don't understand ohm's) most manuals that come with the amp should have a diagram on how to wire it up with all the possible ohm/channel configurations

you dont want it to run peak power as it will overheat and die.....
you look at the rms or the continous power that the amp will run at this means you can play it putting out this amount of power continously... all day...
amp rated at 50wrms 50 continous watts.... and 160peak
the amp plays music at 50watts continous... power output for music isnt linear it will never be exactly 50watts it goes up and down depending on the music and in the music u get an extra large doof power output jumps to 120watts and then back down to approx 50....
when u burp your amp in a spl comp.... it will hit 160 for a few seconds and then slowly go down as the battery voltage drops....
if u look on the amp under or above of the speakers terminals u usally see "bridge" and lines going from channel 1 and 2 these are the terminals u use.... also by bridging you increase total harmonic distortion significantly... so keep the gains turned down... if u'r deck puts out 2 volts set the gains 2 volt input.... u suppose to match the input volt with the output volt....
alot of people dont realise and just crank the gains
