hey decided cant stand the sissy horn of my magna so i went to pick and payless and ripped one off a BMW, sounds nice twin tone just justom made a bracket and wired up in parrallel as there are 2 horns now. little hard to get to without pulling off the bumper but still possible.
if second hand parts isnt your thing hella makes a twin horn replacement, not sure how much
dad did this with his nissan Patrol.

EDIT*** the other day i added it, they look like 2 minni turbos, very big for a horn, very loud and sound like a BMW twin tone horn, and they just fit in there original spot behind the front bar. very happy

But yes, it is a shocking horn!

My mate has a Bimmer and the horns on that are very loud and authorative. I 've been meaning to go a wreckers to get some Falcon horns but after hearing his I want to try and find some from a BMW instead.

Don't be half harted about these things. I used to have a landrover with a truck horn bolted to the roof running off a compressed air tank at 120 psi.......you know the ones, a chrome trumpet about 60cm long. Great in traffic cos it got their attention....caused lots of strained necks and soiled underwear......I miss that horn.

I put BMW horns in the misses old Astina. I had to add a relay because the origional power wasnt enough to get full volume out of them.

The old man has a VZ acclaim and the horn in that is GREAT. Even tops the BMW and FOrd horns i recon. Must be the same horn as in the Statesmans etc. Cant believe they put a nice horn in everything Acclaim and above butr still have that pathetic horn in the executives. WHY??? Why bother having different horns on different models.

Will have a look at the old mans horn in the VZ. Might/hopefully be similar size to the magna ones and you never know, the connection might be the same.

Will find out.

I doesn't make sense to me...considering a horn isn't for that reason anyway. And besides, he's already cut you off...what are you going to do? Blast your horn and cry all the way home? :P (For the e-sensitives, I'm fooling around so stay your flame throwers ;))

I have Tri-Air Horns in my car but have not wired them up yet because the wiring diagram is a bit of a ***** for me to handle, is it possible just to hook the comressor to the exsisting horn wiring?

The BMW type horns can be purchased from Autobarn etc for around $40 brand new - however I don't think the aftermarket ones are as loud and have a slightly different note. I have some in my TH atm, but the standar wiring is **** house. I am remounting them behind the grill and hooking up a relay to it.

This is what they look like:

When replacing with a "BMW" horn, will i need to grab two from the wreckers? Because under the front bar there are two horns on each side and i've also got a horn under the bonnet! What's the go. I changed the passenger side horn under the front bar with a stock one and it sounds like roadrunner :sook:

So in total i found 3 horns on the car.
Dunno what the one under the bonnet is for. Maybe the alarm?

lowrider
25-10-2006, 11:41 AM
i guess it is for the alarm. i had 1 behind the bar and then replaced that 1 with the twin BMW's as they were ment to work together as one is a slightly different shape and size which gives the nice twin tone sound. you will know when you see it.
were behind grill i think i could be wrong
but i dont know what you are talking about having 3 horns? just sit in front of it and get someone to blast the horn and see which one is working.

Just pocketed two mercedes horns from pick and payless. They sound great!
I like the low tone horns. Sound way better than the old road runner beep beep ones.
Suits the car better. Sounds more classier i reckon :)

Haha

yeah thats about it if you are going electric, but if you go air horn you need to install an air pump and hoses and stuff. and the hole thing starts to go crap after a while if you dont use it much, my dads car did. so i just went twin tone horn and bolted right on

Dunno why people would go to so much effort installing air horn and PA systems etc. etc.
Just get a nice horn and you're set

I bought some electric shell type horns for my maggie today. Got them from AutoPro for $24.99. They came with wiring instructions but no wire or a relay but I had that stuff lying around anyway.

They have the same note as your BMW, Ford Falcon horns etc. One is a 60DB low and the other a 60DB high for a 120DB total. They are very loud and authoritive.:)

Here are some photos (hosted from imageshack)

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/9536/horns001xw4.th.jpg (http://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?image=horns001xw4.jpg)

From the first photo you will see that I have mounted them to an existing bolt next to the headlights (no mod to the brackets required). I also mounted them upside down and below the grill to:

- Avoid water getting into the shell when I hose the car and;
- To enable easy access should they need a re-tighten on the bracket or adjustment to wiring.

I was able to tuck most of the wiring away after this photo but those I could not, I sprayed black so it was not visible through the grill.

It was almost like the front of my car was designed to fit these horns.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/1456/horns002nr6.th.jpg (http://img135.imageshack.us/my.php?image=horns002nr6.jpg)

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/817/horns003wf9.th.jpg (http://img135.imageshack.us/my.php?image=horns003wf9.jpg)

There is a screw with wires for something or rather so I screwed the relay there out of harms way hidden by the washer bottle.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8113/horns004am2.th.jpg (http://img135.imageshack.us/my.php?image=horns004am2.jpg)

If you in the Central Coast area, there is one set left at AutoPro West Gosford. They are well worth it for $25.

So are they just plug and play? Replace the old horns with these ones?

There is a bit of wiring involved but it's very straight forward. If you refer to this wiring diagram you will see that you can install a switch on relay 86 should you want to keep your existing horns operational as well. I didn't bother and instead left the existing horn there with the wire so if needed, I can just disconnect the new horns and connect the old ones in a few minutes.

http://www.ado13.com/techs/relay.htm

As for the sound clip part, I'll see what I can do.
