View Full Version : WTF? KR Verada

About a week ago I picked up a KR for the missus, now Im just in the process of repairing all the little things wrong with it (thermostat, roof lining, cv joints...the usual stuff :) )

A few things I have noticed:

NO Electric Windows???
NO Cruise Control???
RHS Drive Shaft uses a 25T Spline into the gearbox (26mm) whereas 99.9% of all shafts I can find use the 28mm spline. I found one, but the inner CV was worse than the current one lol

Its a KR ei and I only just sold another (worse condition) KR ei that didnt have any of these strange things.

Plates etc under the bonnet say KR Verada, its a 1991 model with a V6 so it HAS to be a Verada, it has Verada Bumpers, Boot Garnish etc so its not just a dressed up Magna.

?

EDIT: No Central Locking Either.

Stuff's been stripped out of it or it's a rebirth.

Ive seen a couple of KR/S veradas on ebay that didnt have the extras as well.
I thought it was odd at the time, was there ever a povo verada???

Maybe the very first ones were pov pack? Like they thought that because it was a v6 it'd just be worth the extra money or something?

Killbilly

Verada was the all optioned everything version...why would there be a pov pack???? The ebay ones were probably stripped too :P

If anything EI was the pov and Xi was the top...but they all had power everything standard...

Its Very weird.

Admittedly Ive never owned a 1991 Verada, only 1992 and 1997, however theyve gone to some effort if indeed they have ripped this stuff out.

Definitely :)

Engine is smooth and quiet and is a non-smoker :)

Transmission is even smoother :)

Both replaced less than 12 months ago with RECONDITIONED parts, not 2nd Hand. Receipts were included in sale :)

According to the brochure the 1st Veradas had the power pack as an options that give you power windows etc, it was late 1991 or 1992 that it be came standard.

Have all the doors been replaced, isn't that the only way you can go from electric to mechanical window winders? or ..... respray, rebirth, wrecker doors ???

The first KR EI verada's didnt have any of those features.

I can remember when we were buying our 2nd gen brand new when they first came out. We had an amount we could spend (as it was a company car).

We had the choice of (for the money):
1. TR SE with elec windows, cruise, central locking etc (4cyl) or a
2. KR EI wind down windows, no cruise and no central locking (V6).

Was a tough call at the time as the V6 was brand new to Mitsub and we wanted the extra power.

We wnded up going the Magna for the extra features for the money.

So, yeah, i would say your Verada is legit.

Hows the paint?

The paint was excellent, no peeling clear coat or dull spots. A little scuff or 7 on the bumpers which was fixed with a $10 can of touch up paint.

I did have to replace the front RHS guard as somebody had spilled brake/tranny fluid on it and most of the paint had peeled off it, but that was as easy as $95 from the wreckers in the same colour and 1/2 hours work.

V6 was only available initially with a Verada badge. The V6 Magna came on the scene about 6-10 months later. After this happened, the EI's must have changed to being semi-luxury models. I have an original brocure here somewhere. I'll have a hunt around for it.

My mate recently bought a KR verada Ei and i thought it had been rebadged also. Basic stuff looks like the electric windows have been added to it as the switch looks dicksmith and the motor doesnt stop when the window hits the top. cruise also looks after market. He paid $400 bucks - runs rough, paints knackered, cruise dont work, engines good and aircond works! licensed too lol

Not stripped, the first of the KR EI had no electrics such as windows etc, these were released in the mid to late 91 and a few got through in very early 92. These were around while Mits was clearing the last of the TP's. Magna on the forums had one a couple of years ago until it was written off.

This is from Autoedge which is the official company that is used by finance and insurance companies.

Yeh there was a TR elite, and was it elante or elite that was the sh!t back in the 1st gen days? I'd say that the TR elite was the "best" model to get before the verada was released.

Yeah i guess the Elante was the VRX and the elite the verada minus a few cylinders :P When i had my TP magna i always wanted an elite .. the digital dash always got me. I cant beleive how chopped down the aussie verada is compared to Japans diamante. What were they thinking!

Madmagna
23-10-2006, 08:19 PM
The Elite was released at the same time as the XI Verada, was pretty much the same except 4cyl, no elec seat and small bumpers. The Elite even had the same larger rotors and better control arms of the Verada.

The first gen had the Elite also as well as the Elante which was a "sports" model
