View Full Version : How to adjust coilovers?
Morning.
Finally got my coilovers back on the car, and they were quickly reinstalled, however we didnt have time to adjust the height so its a little weird looking. Thought that it was ok, i might as well learn how to adjust them myself.
Anyway, took the tyre of the first one, grabbed my little wrench thingies and got to twisting..., however, you know where the threaded part is (the grooves on the shaft), after moving the red ends a little down (and then a little up as i figure out i was actually increasing the height), they stopped. Its like they jammed... ? So im wondering if there is something that im doing wrong? (well im pretty sure i did something wrong, but how does one fix it :P).
I can forsee damage to the threads if you adjust them on the car (given the load of the car on the coilovers), so im wondering if this is what has caused them to lock up *shrug*).
Right now its not budging up or down :doubt: Any advice would be great.

Make sure each side is elevated of the ground... If they are tight you might have to spray some sort of lubricant on the threads. Cant think of anything else should be straight forward.

seperate (unlock) the 2 red rings first.
spary a little wd40 on 'em as the alloy surfaces where the rings lock together get stuck to each other, then
using the 2 spanners simultaneously, one on the upper ring, one on the lower, turn each in the direction (pictured below) to seperate.
If you can't unlock them by hand, you may need to tap the handle of one of the spanners with a hammer whilst bracing the other handle against something solid to break the "stick"
after moving the red ends a little down (and then a little up as i figure out i was actually increasing the height)
??
rings down = lower
rings up = higher
if any damage is done it will probably be to the rings as the threaded shaft is a lot harder
........or basically you'll need a new ring because you abused it on the shaft..............
hope this helps, don't make me take the wheel off and get pics with the spanners on :D

i took off the first tyre, and went to adjust it, and it moved up and down an inch and i didnt 'unlock' the two red things, yet still managed to adjust it... maybe it just wasnt locked when they put it on last time...
