As I have been experiencing the dreaded high flow filter flatspot after carrying out intake mods, I was trawling the net for info and came across this article where the Karmen Vortex MAS on a Mits 3000GT was replaced by a hot wire MAS. Interesting.

Reading closely it really seems a badly thought out mod - no barometric pressure or intake air temp sensors so you send a constant signal - bad idea. You would constantly be tuning the bastard...
Close, but no cigar.

how about one off a us 2000-2005 eclipse?? have been doing some searching trying to find a CAI kit apart from rpw or making my own, and these appear to be slightly different to the ones we have.
Got that from

That article claims that the stock intake is cooler than the aftermarket one but the results show that the aftermarket intake increased the power and torque...

this is my oppinion but if its not broken dont fix it,
if the flat spot is a problem then get rid of the pod, get a good panel filter instead

The mitsu MAS is a good bit of gear, no point in replacing it as it as the potential for huge hp anyway. You will not beable to put a MAF of our cars cause the ECU reads a frequency signal from the Karmen Vortex and MAF is a heater basically, the air comming in cools down the wire and thats how it determines it's data. Also the lack of a Barometric Pressure sensor will be a probelm cause it controls the timing to, no barro no advancement of timing the higher the rpm gets.
The only other options are a MAP sensor which will require a full aftermarket ECU or an aftermarket ECU that uses the temp sensor only and gets maped bit by bit rpm by rpm throttle position change it, takes ages to tune.

I thought the MAS wasn't really a restriction in the system anyway, unless some crazy forced induction was happenning?

The Mitsubishi Magna MAF system maxes out at around 600hp at the flywheel - I worked that one out after a while.
It is a very good design and is one of the reasons why the magna's are so good for idle control, progressive throttle etc.
Very responsive to air changes unless doing as you said very serious mods, leave it there and enjoy.
