19.3, ouch, wonder what a 1st gen manual would do .
19.3, ouch, wonder what a 1st gen manual would do .
it would be quicker cos it's lighter than a second gen

how can mine waste a v6 commodore (vn) when it does a 0-100 in 12sec?
in all tech manuals ive seen quote power as 102kw @4750 on 91ulp and 108kw @4925 on 96 (EFI)
i run straight through mufflers and a high flow filter with advanced timing and pulp (98ron) so i'd love to see what it makes atf

Its actually 98kw on 91ron, and 102kw on 95ron.
Was the VN stock..? and remember.. ur car isnt stock either. And if you were doing traffic light GP, you probably wouldnt have got up to 100km/h either. So you cant compare it by 0-100 times.
Lol.. thanks for the link... u just had to remind me how **** the specs on my car are... lol

just to let you in on a little secret... mine runs o-100 in 9.5...
at the moment... new extractors and twin throttle bodies will be finished and tuned by mid november...
then once im happy with the n/a power im investing in some nitro! 100hp should do it!
and b4 anyone gets worried i have forged internals...

...19.3 sec 1/4 mile for auto and 17.8 sec for tha manual. ...
......
mmmm... I got this from your link.. 0 to 100 in 12.0 secs was good for the mid 80s.
Test Result Acceleration
50 - 80km/h --- 5.5 sec (3rd gear)
60 - 100km/h -- 7.3 sec (3rd gear)
0 - 80km/h -- 7.4 sec
0 - 100km/h -- 12.0 sec
0 - 400 mtrs -- 17.8 sec

Finally did a timed 0-100 run the other day...
-100 in 11secs flat, with an average launch (not too ****, but not the best... damn autos) without emptying car (ie, lotsa **** on backseat, bottles of drink, coolant, oil... stereo in boot... etc...)
With light mods... that'll do me for now. Maybe save for a stage 1 cam grind someday.
Not 'too' bad when ya look at the factory rated times lol.

hey thats pretty good wot mods u got so far??
im going to the drags on wed so i thought i'd clean tha **** out of my boot. i got started and thought #@$% it ill weigh it all just to see................. 60kgs!!! i kid you not thats like a whole extra passenger. doubt it will make any difference anyway but i do notice its slower when i have passengers so meh

23-10-2006, 05:58 PM
wow 60kg's.... i reckon my stereo gear weighs about 30kg's alone LOL.
Ummm i dont have alot of performance mods... unfortunately.. due to cash being tight lol.
I do, however, have a dodgy hall sensor which wont hold my ignition timing LOL. It advances/retards it every revolution, so when u look at the timing marks with the gun on it; every time the light flashes its completely different timing, ie, *flash* 2deg *flash* 18deg *flash* 1deg *flash 22deg* etc...
And a ****ed auto trans... feels like you hit a brick wall when it shifts gears :P .
performance mods include.. lukey ultraflow rear section/muffler (couldnt afford cat back lol).
K&n panel with dodgy cai.
And a cheap set of extractors me & tufftr found at the wreckers LOL... $45... brand name unheard of.
I have a few other engine mods, but they dont really come under the performance section.
Theres a few other little cheap/free tweaks i've been meaning to do but havent found the time yet. If i could get down to around the 10.6 sec mark without spending major fundage or doing any internal top end work to the motor, i'd be happy. I've managed to get it this far without spending much so yeh. Most of the time gained would come from weight loss if i could actually be stuffed emptying the car. lol. Once i fix up the timing problem and get a fuel filter thats not blocked with **** it should be good lol, that should make a difference.
Hopefully will be keepin up with the 3.8l commies 0-60 then.
Anywayz... happy modding chaps.
Btw, magnatism, what mods do you have mate... your car sounds hardcore!

i wonder what the NZ spec 1st gen V6 has in the way of power and 1/4 times???
magnatism
23-10-2006, 07:45 PM
i've been on an r&d mission with this bloody thing every time i improve something i get told i cant get any more power out of it because this is now restricting it and blah blah blah. i've got a cam that makes power from 3000-7000 which is great its like hitting 50 shot of nos at 3000 rpm except that it will only make power to 5500 rpm. so i woz told to get 2.5" mandrel exhaust... did that... same power but it makes it earlier and for longer but still only revs to 5500. so now i have to get a custom set of 4-1 mandrel extractors because apparently the ones i bought are poorly made and the press bends are restricting the flow and 4-2-1 design isnt as good for high end power.
if the extractors make the difference im hoping then it should be much quicker soon.
if it stays tha same im changing back to a smaller cam which will mean less overall hp readings on the dyno but it will go a lot quicker at sub 3000rpm so overall 1/4 times etc may drop.
ah! if only it would rev out harder damn it

9.5seconds is good auto vrx's 15years newer do only 7.5
17seconds is about right mine did that before it was turbo charged.

That sounds alright for a four cylinder back then, I used to have a four cylinder daewoo, and after exhaust and intake mods and running full synthetic oil it did 0-100 in 13 seconds!!!
And it was a manual:bowrofl:

daewoo
That 1 word says it all...lol
On a side note, might be getting a dizzy sometime this week... so hopefully i should be able to safely advance my ignition timing and take it for another 0-100 run. :)

i took mine for a run last night with a mate timing me.
i did 0-60 in 4.23 secs and 0-100 in 9.72 secs. i was pretty happy with that when considering the factory times. i threw on extractors and exhaust bout a month ago, mate first gear tops out in no times, she accelerates like a rocket, it awesome ay. not sure what else to do on it next, if anything lol. thought bout stage one or two cam then not thought bout it, meh i dunno. shes fine as she is for now. :D

My 0-100 time in an auto elite was 12 flat.
When I bought the car I thought it was 100% stock cos i was noob but it turns out the dude that owned it before me did a little bit to it, apart from the diferent exauhst though I'm not entirely sure what.

i wonder what the NZ spec 1st gen V6 has in the way of power and 1/4 times???
the same as our 2nd gen:nuts:
over there in new zealand there first gen was our 2nd gen.
so if they saw a tr\ts they would call that a 1st gen
but if u were in america a tr\ts is a 6th gen galant to them.

A vn v6 would eat a 2.6, and gen 2 v6 no contest.
magnatism
29-10-2006, 08:10 AM
yeah well said shane the vn v6's were heaps quicker especially 0-60 in like 3 sec and 0-100 in about 8 or so. but for some reason they struggle a bit after that

im of the opinion a vn v6 would be as fast as a SOHC maybe faster, theyre bullets of the line. My mates beats up to 2000 v8s quite easily, i believe the sohc would have a better top end.

I think you'll find that its not the motor in the VN's that allows it to keep up, but rather the gearing thats set up quite well. The actual tuning of the 3.8 makes it die out the **** after 3600-4000rpm... theres nothing above that.

give him a go at a bit more distinguishing speeds although rada's are heavy and he has one of the biggest sub boxes i've ever seen.
Any of you 4cyl manual guys gone to willowbank etc?
