Aye
I got a quote today for fixing a bang on my drivers door, Guy I took it too said it required a new 'skin' (i dunno I think thats new sheet metal outa part) and cause of the metallic paint I needed to spray the front guard, driver door, and rear driver door all for $986. That'll be a no from me. so decided for another option gettin a new door which is too easy but I want it in the colour Ive already got to save me respraying so does anyone have a spare TE/TF drivers door in the champaigne colour (i.e.the goldy silver colour) to sell? The closer to wollongong the better.

2 Places:
Jap Parts Newcastle - ~$100-$200
(02) 4956 1366
Franks Spares in Campbelltown
(02) 4628 5555
Both these places ship, and both have many, many magna bits.

rubbish!
Any auto painter worth his title should be able to colour match the paint to your existing paintwork, taking into account ageing and fading etc. They are seriously dodgy if they need to repaint the whole side of the car to match paint...!!
If they paint the whole door there's no issues about needing to fade the paint into existing either, there's the panel lines for the whole door that will help disguise any (MINOR) colour variance between old and new.
But then again, to just paint the door + panelwork... could be $500 job still.
..GONE..

Get yourself a new skin and then get that painted.. take the car and tell em to match it.. Shouldn't be too hectic!
Then transfer all the **** from yours to the new one.. slap it on.. TADA! Done!
Be cheaper then $1000 for sure!

Actually with metallic colours it usually pays to "blend" the other panels in so you dont notice that it has been resprayed, beacuase they have little metallic bits it them, and every batch is possibly different. anyway, thats what i was told when doing my panel beating apprenticeship. oh and reskinning a door requires it be completely stripped, old skin removed , new skin put on and alligned properly, and then painting the new door and reassembly. so its very labour intensive, hence $$$$

Yep that's what I've come to believe too, after talking to many panel beaters and reading up on automotive painting and panel fixing procedures. If a whole door needs to be painted in metallic, then adjacent panels need to be oversprayed as well to blend the colour.

yeh thats true, but a whole side of a car? i find that hard to beleive, they should colour match then feather it in but not that much, thats insane, if i was gunna get a whole sidde of a car resprayed i would jst get that whole dam thing done!

Just had my car repaired and they replaced the passenger side 1/4 panel and they blended back over the passenger door in order to make it even.
They also replaced the bonnet and front bar, so other side 1/4 panel was blended over and also the pillars. As such, you can't really tell it's a respray.
The reparier said that it is the more costly way to go, but will give you the best finish. SOME people get lucky and manage to get it looking OK without blending back over neighbouring panels, but on close inspection you are almost certain to spot it as a respray.
Was nice of him to explain it to me even though I wasn't paying the bill :bowrofl:

Yea I went to see another guy and he told me the same thing so Im thinkin i'll either:
1: Buy a Door shell, give it to my smash repairer and have him do his plan of front guard, drivers door, rear door.
2:Look into that place in sydney with the spare magna parts and try and find a champainge coloured door and have it shipped to me.
This is costing alot more than i thought when I bought the friggin thing. I wanted to get straight to buying rims but this damn door is gunna put a stop on that for a while.
By the way has anyone seen the Magna at Dapto Autostyling, was talkin to the guy who owns it today and he has an awesome kit setup on it. VRX Sides, Ford TE50 front and rear skits, Bonnet bulge from some american thing and a massive rear wing which is the only thing I disagree with.

I went through exactly the same thing when I scratched my rear passenger door.
Was quoted $1100 for new skin, fitting and paint (apparently it's quite involved to get the old skin off and the new one on)
I waited a long time and finally found a door in the right colour. Took my old man and me a few hours to swap over the glass, door handles and interior.
You'd never know.
I thnk I paid $180 for the door and another $40ish for the grey strips on the outside.

get a pic - I'd love to see a TE50 bar on a 3rd gen.

In the end I went with Gas_Head's Wrecker suggestions, Cheers for that mate! Cost me $250 for the door, $20 to send it from Newcastle to Wollongong and I got one the same colour as my car. Took one day and alot of swearing to get it on but new the car is great. Next is the exhaust the Lowering, Rims, and a JVM Bodykit

White cars, ya don't have to blend :D at work we do alot of caryard work, and we don't blend into the next panel for caryard work, and it looks ****!

Yeh, theres a little dent/bump. My mates a panel beater, and im mates with the workers at his shop, and the manager said someting like $800, because they need to spray more things to match the same colour or somting, lol. Metalic looks so sexy, untill you need to get a respray, haha.
