Luckily thats an outer CV thats buggered, and only the boot by the looks of it.

If it's not rattly or making a clunky noise, then you only need to replace the boot, which should cost ~$10.

If it is rattly, Outer CV's are ~$50 each, and theres ones on ebay for $39 each including boots.

Theres the outer joints if u need the whole thing, Ive got some of these from these people in the past, and they are good quality products too.

Yeah the cv is busted. Getting mine repaired as we speak.
So annoying. I hate the creaking noise when you turn

You should be able to buy the boots at any large auto store like Repco, Supercheap, Auto One etc. and of course from Mitsubishi dealers and driveline specialists.

Cost of the boots is negligible, about $10 to $15 each. However you should check whether your CV joints are OK first. If they are damaged, you'll hear a clicking sound when you do sharp turns (like U turns) and sometimes a drumming noise when cruising along. You'd be fairly annoyed if you replaced the boots and then found you had to do the work all over again to replace the CV joints.

I just had mine replaced on a TP. I was quoted $77 per side to supply and fit just the boots or $125 per side to supply and fit (on an exchange basis) complete shafts with new inner and outer boots, new outer CV joints and reco'd inner CV joints. Of course I went for the lot. It made a noticeable difference to the car - much quieter.

You'll be lucky to find anyone as cheap as that but its a dirty, messy job and fairly difficult if you haven't done it before. I think its worth paying someone to do it. Its much easier with a hoist and all the right equipment.

I'm some what interested too cos I know that CV boots are only about $10 - $15 from the shop but got quoted by brakes plus $85 for one side. Anyone in Melbourne know of somewhere cheap to get it done.

you know your cv joint is ****ed when your car wont drive anywhere, and you take the cvjoint apart to find this:

i haven't got a photo of the other cv, but i snapped the spline clean off the joint.

yes the burnout(s) was/were worth it :D

the boot will cost about $10 to replace if you do the job yourself, or about $60ish for someone to do it.

if you need a new joint, it'll be around $50-60ish if you replaced it... but for what it's worth, get a new driveshaft ($100ish) so then you have piece of mind about the inner joint, and makes the job a whole lot easier cos you swap over the whole smear, not try and get the joint off the driveshaft (those snap rings are a pain!)
