I've been reading a few threads to do with converting autos over to a manual box, and I have an idea I'd like to throw to the wind. I know a few people that do a lot of work on jap imports, and the 'box conversion is one of the most popular mods, what with the japs loving autos and all... One of the costs involved with swapping magnas over is a new ecu, am I right? Well in the Silvias/ 180s/200s etc, it is possible to bridge a couple of pins on the unit to fool the ecu into thinking the trans is always in park. This way it revs freely and fuels properly and all that. Just wondering whether the same trick would work in a magna? It might save a few people some cash is all.

Yes it works, except it's done so it always thinks it's in neutral. I'm currently running an auto diamante ecu with my DOHC conversion...proof it works. The only thing is it does run richer than a manual ecu.

Is it possible to piggy back it to re-tune it?

Thats cool. I was just wondering. I thought it was an extremely sneaky way of getting away with spending less $$ and not doing a dodgy job, something that is truly hard to do!
